KS3 Computing HTML and CSS unit: students code a real multi-page website over 6 lessons, with work and homework booklets and full answers.

Students turn the website they designed into real code, starting with their first webpage and ending with a fully styled, multi-page website. Every slide looks like a code editor, and every code example is editable, colour-coded text with a preview of how it looks in a browser.

6 lessons (PowerPoint)

  1. HTML Foundations
  2. Building Web Content (images and attributes)
  3. Creating Multi-Page Websites (hyperlinks and file organisation)
  4. Development Time 1 (debugging)
  5. Styling Websites with CSS
  6. Development Time 2 (refine and evaluate)

Every lesson includes

  • “Today’s goals”, a retrieval warm-up with answers, and a tag dictionary
  • Step-by-step code slides with syntax colouring and browser previews
  • “Spot the bug” debugging slides (missing closing tags, broken links, file names, URLs)
  • CSS colours as names, RGB and hex codes, fonts, and navigation bar styling with hover effects
  • A Console Quiz with answers, a “commit your learning” reflection, and a build progress tracker with the website requirements
  • Teacher notes on every slide

Work booklet (24 pages, with answers)
Fill in the missing tags, match tags, label code line by line, put code in order, write HTML from scratch, predict the page, write image tags and links, fix broken code, hex colour codes, write CSS rules, a bug log and test plan, a style plan, peer review and evaluation. Includes an HTML tag reference and a CSS cheat sheet.

Homework booklet (16 pages, with answers)
Six homeworks: tags and page structure, images and alt text, links and file names, finding bugs, hex colours and CSS rules, and evaluating a real website.

Also included

  • End-of-unit assessment and mark scheme
  • 20-question multiple-choice quiz (ready for Microsoft Forms)
  • HTML tags and hex colour code activity sheets

What’s included: 6 PowerPoints, a work booklet and a homework booklet (each with answers), plus the assessment, mark scheme, quiz and activity sheets.
