Make science fun, practical and easy to prepare with this floating and sinking resource for EYFS, KS1 and SEND children.
The resource encourages children to investigate, predict, test and record which objects float and which objects sink using simple water tray experiments.
The resource includes 9 printable worksheets, each featuring 8 different objects for children to collect, test and explore in real life. After testing the items in water, children cut out the matching pictures and stick them into the correct “Float” or “Sink” recording boxes to show their findings.
Page 10 is a template for teachers to create their own worksheet or for children to draw their own pictures of their collected objects.
The worksheets are designed to support:
• Early scientific investigation
• Prediction and observation skills
• Speaking and listening
• Sorting and classifying
• Understanding of materials and water
Simply fill a tray, bowl or tray with water and gather matching classroom or household objects ready for testing.
Children can handle the objects, make predictions, test them in water and discuss why some objects float while others sink.
