This four-page resource is a set of items to support the learning of significant figures related to making measurements and reading scales on lab apparatus and equipment, (rulers, graduated cylinders, etc.) for use in chemistry or measurement classes.

I like to teach the students how to work out the value of a division on a scale and then read scales to the correct number of significant figures. The notes can be used as an introduction or review of making measurements.

The student templates provide a guide for teachers and students to work through in class. Once the notes have been completed, students can then complete the two pages of practice problems.

Use this resource before a lab activity, as an introduction to making measurements and significant figures, or as a review.
