Children place four-digit numbers on an empty 0-10,000 line and round them to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. They count back in repeated steps through zero, label negative temperatures on a thermometer, and find differences in temperature between negative and negative temperatures and between negative and positive temperatures. They begin to answer questions such as 5 – 6.
