This lesson focuses on:

  • talking about distances ( ‘mi insti está a diez minutos a pie’) using the vocabulary for places and modes of transport;
  • places in town match-up activity;
  • translation activity focusing on habits (days of the week/where I go and with whom) - there is also a Once Pen&One Dice game added at the end of the lesson - you can print it and use it as pair work) ;
  • revision of ‘vivir’ in present tense;
  • slide 37 - practicing the verb using dice - pair work;
  • talking about floors and distance explanation slides;
  • One Pen & One Dice answers at the end - for students to self-assess.

The whole lesson provides a scaffolding for the game that can be used as plenary. My students really do enjoy it, especially when I give a merit/sticker to each one of them who won against their partner .

Game rules:

  • students are put in pairs, each one of them has a different colour pen, one dice and one translation sheet per pair.
  • students take turns in throwing the dice.
  • the student that gets number 6 on the dice, starts translating as much and as fast as possible, while the other students keeps rolling the dice.
  • once the other student gets number 6, they swap.
  • the person who translates most (it’s easier to see when they use different colour pens) wins.
