“More Than Headlines” is a thoughtful, deliberately understated Refugee Week assembly designed for students in Years 7–13.

Rather than focusing on statistics or political debate, the assembly explores the ordinary lives that exist before people become headlines. Through carefully structured visuals, silence, messaging sequences and minimal narration, students are encouraged to think about identity, media language and the human reality behind the word “refugee.”

The assembly is calm, emotionally intelligent and deliberately restrained in tone. It is designed to provoke reflection rather than deliver a lecture, making it suitable for whole-school delivery, tutor groups or year assemblies.

Included:
Full assembly PowerPoint with speaker notes and suggested timings
Detailed teacher notes with slide-by-slide delivery guidance
One Bag - a quiet tutor time reflection activity with student worksheet and teacher presentation
The Headline Rewrite - a media literacy task for KS4 and KS5 with student worksheet, teacher presentation and discussion prompts

Approximate assembly length: 15–18 minutes.
Follow-up activities: 10–15 minutes each.
