This is an entire lesson I developed for the new GCSE specification. Students carry out a series of reactions to investigate how alcohols react chemically and then build on prior knowledge to work out what their observations are showing them. It is worth supporting this with textbooks or other material to ensure they reach a correct conclusion by the end. Student results sheets and instructions are included in the powerpoint.

I also introduced carboxylic acids in this double lesson as the knowledge is quite simple. I also made the ester ethyl ethanoate as a demo to finish off this part of the unit.
