A simple party planning activity for Key Stage two. This activity encourages children to use their addition, multiplication, subtraction and percentage knowledge. It also requires Literacy skills including designing invites and presenting ideas. Children should work in teams of 3 or 4 to create a party and should use their budget to design the best party possible for ‘their client’. They have to decide on venues, entertainment and much more.

These lessons worked well with a Year 5/6 class and encouraged them to work carefully in teams across 2-3 days. It can easily be adapted for lower key stage 2. At the end of the project, children were asked to present their ideas and I (acting as the client) rated each group’s party. Happy Party Planning!
