Pewter Casting

This booklet acts as a scheme of work that is aimed to introduce pupils to basic metal working as well as working within a linear design process. We encourage that you use iteration in the designing stage of this alongside cardboard models to ensure that you are meeting the expectations of the GCSE exams board. I have taught this project to good results and making something that is of a professional standard. Ideal for any career insight into industrial process as well as understanding the way in which metals can be used to create a desirable product. For this project to be run successfuly you will need:

  • Pewter
  • Tadel
  • Steel saucepan
  • Bunsen burner with tripod/hob
  • Sheet wood i.e laser ply or MDF
  • 2D Design on computers accessible for the each pupil.

There are kits available from many craft shops but i found that i could use a lot of the things that we already had available in the department. The pewter is suitable for being melted down many times over so waste is minimal.
