Money Problems

  1. A school jumper costs £22.50. A pair of trousers costs £18.75. Mum buys 2 jumpers and 3 pairs of trousers. She pays with £150. How much change does she get?

  2. Tickets to a theme park are £24.50 for an adult and £16.25 for a child. A family of 2 adults and 3 children go. They have a £20 discount voucher. How much do they pay altogether?

  3. A baker sells boxes of 12 cupcakes for £9.60. He makes 15 boxes on Saturday and sells all of them. On Sunday he only sells 2/3 of 12 boxes. How much money does he make across both days?

  4. Tom has £80. He spends 1/4 of it on a book and then £18.50 on a game. How much money does he have left?

  5. A phone costs £320. The shop reduces it by 25%, then by a further £30 in a sale. What is the final sale price?

  6. A charity walk raises £4.50 per person. 86 people take part. The organisers spend £120 on medals and £85 on water. How much money is left to donate?

Measurement Problems

  1. A rectangular field is 85m long and 42m wide. Fencing costs £7.50 per metre. What is the total cost to put fencing all the way around the field?

  2. A jug holds 2.5 litres of water. You pour out 750ml, then 0.6 litres, then 400ml. How much water is left in the jug?

  3. A train journey takes 2 hours 35 minutes. It stops for 8 minutes at 3 stations. What is the total time including the stops?

  4. A recipe needs 450g of flour. You make it 3 times. Flour comes in 1.5kg bags that cost £2.40 each. How many bags do you need and what is the total cost?

  5. A cuboid tank is 120cm long, 50cm wide and 80cm high. It is filled at a rate of 4 litres per minute. 1 litre = 1000cm³. How many minutes will it take to fill the tank?

  6. A ribbon is 15.6m long. You cut 4 pieces each 2.25m long. How much ribbon is left?

  7. It is 145 km from Alton to Bristol. A car drives there at an average speed of 58 km/h. How long does the journey take? Give your answer in hours and minutes.

  8. A school hall is 18m by 9m. Carpet tiles are 50cm by 50cm and cost £3.20 each. How many tiles are needed and what is the total cost?

  9. A runner does 4 laps of a 400m track. Then she runs a further 1.8km. What is the total distance she runs in km?

  10. A water bottle holds 750ml. A family of 4 each drink 2 full bottles on a day out. How many litres of water did they drink altogether?
