Here’s my Shape Spotting worksheet for EYFS.

This download includes 4 worksheets that ask children to either color in specific shapes or count how many shapes that can see.

The objectives of this sheet is to encourage children to recognise shapes by their characteristics rather than what they know. i.e. this shape has no corners so it’s a circle. It’s useful as the shapes are in different rotations, translations and sizes so encourages children to really think about characteristics.

Differentiation is in the form of the two different sheets: LA can be encouraged to focus on improving their knowledge of shapes characteristics with the coloring sheet whereas MA and HA can incorporate number skills with the counting sheet. Furthermore, one set of sheets use ‘basic’ shapes such as square, rectangle, cirlce and the other has diamonds, hexagons etc.
