Want to introduce tenths and hundredths to your students in a fun and engaging way? Learning about decimal fractions and their position in the place value chart is made interesting and entertaining through the fun Maths adventure book “Sir Cumference Gets Decima’s Point” by Cindy Neuschwander.

A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension and Maths, the children will be super engaged with this lovely book and accompanying lesson. The practical activity has a real-world sense of purpose as the children are tasked with creating a fruit punch using their decimal knowledge of tenths and hundredths and applying this to litres and millilitres.

The story briefly covers thousandths, but the lesson focuses on tenths and hundredths as per the book, and so it is recommended that this lesson be used as an introduction to decimals rather than a consolidation.

This pack contains:

  • Detailed Maths lesson plan
  • Key Comprehension Questions for read-aloud
  • Teaching Input Powerpoint (8 slides)
  • Answer Key included for teaching input
  • Differentiated recording sheets for main activity
  • Identifying Hundredths worksheet
