Spanish KS3 Full unit: Asking and answering questions (EPI / MARS EARS) - 23 lessons and homework

Hi, I’m a Spanish native speaker and I have been an MFL teacher in the UK for 5 years. We started using Gianfranco Conti’s EPI approach in my school and I made this unit using his MARS EARS method.

This unit is ideal for KS3. It has 23 lessons and it includes 3 sub-units on asking and answering questions in 3 different scenarios: asking for directions in the city, restaurant role play and shop role play. The sentence builders cover:

• Dónde está + places in the city + directions
• Qué le gustaría tomar? Me gustaría/Quiero + food and drink items
• En qué le puedo ayudar? Quiero/Busco + clothing items + colour + sizes
• Cuánto cuesta? Numbers (Differentiated for lower and higher ability)

This unit is perfect to prepare for Speaking questions such as Role Play and General Conversation. Each sub-unit applies the Full MARS EARS sequence and develops fluency in the 4 skills (with an emphasis in phonics) and go from introducing the vocabulary and grammar to testing the skills. They also include regular homework.

Each lesson includes a variety of engaging activities and are ready to go (from starter activity to plenary/game) or be adapted to your classes. Some activities include: mini white board translations, faulty echo, jumbled up sentences, gapped translation, narrow reading and Listening), bad translation, delayed dictation, etc.

At the end of the unit there are speaking challenges and a writing challenge that combine the 4 sub-units and can be used as assessments, as well as revision materials.
