The aim of this lesson is to analyse the fears surrounding the Ghost Dance and analyse the significance of the Wounded Knee Massacre in the American West.
Students analyse historical information, answer differentiated questions and use video evidence to investigate why the US authorities feared the Ghost Dance,
the reasons for the Sioux massacre and its consequences for the Plains Indians.
The plenary is an interactive Connection Wall activity, requiring students to link four key words together and explain the connections between them.
There is also follow-up GCSE exam question practice focusing on the 8 mark ‘Write a narrative account…’ question. Guidance and support are provided where needed, alongside a model answer to help students develop their exam technique.
The resource includes differentiated materials, suggested teaching strategies and retrieval practice from the start of the lesson to reinforce prior knowledge.
The lesson comes in editable PowerPoint format, allowing teachers to amend and adapt the materials to suit their own classes.
