people 1-9 gcse geography gcse ks3 uk urban trends urbanisation counter

A great lesson that covers a variety of urban trends. I based this on the pupils local area, but it could very simply be adapted to your own area. The GCSE Q & A really tests their understanding. Covers most new 1-9 gcse geography specifications, but terminology may need slightly altering. A great lesson that covers key geographical content and statistical analysis and explaining.

This lesson introduces the terms linear, dispersed and nucleated settlements. It comes complete with PowerPoint and worksheets to structure the activities. The pupils first learn what the phrases mean, and then … … see if they can identify the patterns in aerial photograph examples of all three. They then go on to look at the causes that lead to the development of all three types of settlement pattern. After this, the pupils describe each settlement pattern in their own words … … and then using online maps like google, they try to find examples. There is also a video interview with a farmer to show his perceptions of how the city has developed.

How Developed is India?

How Developed is India?

This lesson is currently used towards the end of year 7, but would be equally useful for any KS3 group, or as an introduction at GCSE. Pupils will be asked at the start of the lesson to justify whether or not they think that India is developed. During the lesson, a card sort will help pupils to create a map showing the development of different regions of India. At the end of the lesson, pupils are asked to look back at their answer to the question of how developed India is and see explain whether or not they’ve changed their mind. There is a second bellwork included in the powerpoint incase you don’t get through it all in one lesson. This lesson follows the same format as my, ‘How Developed is China?’ lesson

Extension tasks with every lesson. Please review if you download! Thanks :)
