Bullying, Gaming, and Group Chats: Why Does It Matter How I Behave Online? In this lesson, students will reflect on the importance of treating others with kindness and respect whenever they interact with friends and classmates online. According to OFCOM’s latest research, 55% of 8- to 17-year-olds regularly use online games and apps like WhatsApp to chat with or hang out with friends. However, with the rise of this kind of communication, we are also seeing increasing cases of online bullying in these forums. Sometimes this is a spillover from bullying that takes place in real life, but it can also occur between friends who typically behave respectfully in person. We will discuss the importance of treating our online friends with the same level of kindness and respect that we would expect to receive ourselves, both online and in real life. We will also highlight scenarios where children can unknowingly bully their friends online, by taking teasing too far or excluding friends in online gaming situations. Finally, we will discuss strategies for managing online relationships and, where necessary, setting boundaries with friends who behave badly online. The lesson includes a starter activity that serves as a recap of the previous lesson, a video clip with reflection questions, a set of case studies to discuss, and a plenary task. Everything is editable should you wish to make amendments, but it is also fully resourced and ready to use if you want to hit the ground running. The lesson is best suited to students in Year 6 (UKS2) or possibly Year 7 (LKS3).

1 hour, detailed and well differentiated lesson about why PSHE is such an important subject and how it contributes to the all-round success in life of every student - ideal for KS4 as a recap or introduction. The lesson focuses what the three main aspects of PSHE education are (RSE, Living in the Wider World and Health and Wellbeing) before examining a number of case studies where young adults’ lives could have been transformed had they paid attention in their PSHE lessons. It includes a detailed PowerPoint, worksheets, differentiated activities, clip and literacy focus and debate tasks. It could be used either for KS3 or KS4, but was created with KS4 mostly in mind (to remind them why the subject is so important, despite them also studying for exams). Everything is editable. Caffeine and Energy Drinks Lesson This 1-hour, fully resourced PSHE lesson is suitable for upper KS2 or lower KS3. It investigates the risks associated with consuming caffeinated energy drinks as well as looking at the harmful effects of consuming too many ‘free sugars’. The students will begin the lesson by reflecting on the events that swept the nation when the Prime product line was first released. We will discuss the reasons why some schools felt the need to ban the drink before delving into the health risks associated with excessive caffeine consumption. The students will look at the caffeine and sugar content of a variety of drinks, reflecting on their safety, suitability for young people, as well as the moral question of whether it is right to market these products to kids and young people. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well-differentiated, and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no-prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.

An assembly all about turning over a new leaf and being ambitious and changing your attitude. There is a big focus on working hard and how you can change your mindset to be more positive at any time. It lasts about 15 -20 minutes if clips are watched and questions asked too. The assembly uses the story of how Jay-Z escaped a tough childhood and gangs by working incredibly hard and throwing himself into writing and music. It follows Shawn (the young Jay-Z - hopefully students won’t recognise who the assembly is about until the end) as he grows up as a troubled boy in Brooklyn, through the departure of his father, his grades slipping at school and how he eventually reached a crossroads. With encouragement from his mother, young Shawn decided to change his attitude and make a fresh start. The assembly emphasises the importance of hard work, staying positive and taking the opportunity presented by making a fresh start in life - which can be especially related to at the beginning of a school term. There are optional clips to watch throughout and teacher notes (in the slide notes of the PowerPoint) with suggested questions that can be posed at each point and ideas to reflect on. The lessons cover how easy it is to be tricked into following a cult, rather than a genuine religious organisation. Students will learn about the differences between cults and religions, what makes a good religious leader and how these qualities differ in cult leaders’ personalities. The lessons see students investigate five different figures from Islam, Christianity, Scientology, Buddhism and Heaven’s Gate. There is also a further focus on Heaven’s Gate as a typical example of a cult. Careers + Post-16 Options - For the Gatsby Benchmark Careers Guidelines. 1-2 hour fully resourced careers lesson which introduces the concept of careers, jobs and vocations before investigating the best ways students can establish the right career paths for them. The lesson sees students creating a six point plan based on the provided information, clip tasks and other activities and is perfect as an introduction lesson for a PSHE / Citizenship careers unit. Two-hour lesson, jam-packed with information the best ways to revise (as well as how and why) and the most common revision pitfalls, and why these don’t work. Students will complete tasks where they try out the very best methods, critique their current revision strategies, and put new plans into action which integrate all of the new and improved ideas.
