This is a set of 2 posters that I have had printed on large display paper. Each poster instructs students carefully about annotation and writing analytical paragraphs. They use the poem 'Do not go gentle into that good night' by Dylan Thomas and the annotations lead up to the paragraph. The paragraph poster includes sentence starters and challenge suggestions. These could also be used as printed learning mats for the desk.

This is an A4 sheet that my students use to check their spellings. It has the most commonly misspelled words (from official sources and from my experience as a teacher). It contains both homophones and other spellings so that students can proof read more effectively.

This is my very quick, efficient and effective way to mark extended pieces of writing so that students can take action quickly and make rapid and sustained progress. This scheme of work aims to familiarise students with poetry and to get them ready for the type of analysis expected with the new AQA Literature specification. We have used Character and Voice poems from the old Moon on the Tides anthology to do this and teach KS3 the necessary skills they need. This is a full, seven week scheme of work that is aimed at high ability Key Stage 3 students but could be used for KS4. It consists of up to 26 lessons (depending on pace and ability this can be cut down/altered), 7 weekly homework activities, 1 mini and 1 full assessment and all PowerPoint/activities/worksheets required. I have also included fully annotated copies of each poem for teachers to revise/students to study. This is a lesson that I did in a computer room with my Year 10 and Year 11 class. It can also be set as homework. Students research and find their own extracts. They then put them into the templates and create their own exam papers. These can be printed and used with the class which makes it much more exciting for them when they're having to keep doing mock papers!

This is a one-off lesson that I used regularly in my teaching, either at the end of a longer piece of written classwork or at the end of an assessment. I even use this for sixth form teaching when they are handing in essays. The lesson involves: - A broken-down success criteria sheet that can be altered depending on topic - A PowerPoint that guides students through detailed peer-assessment - Students are each given a skill to assess and will peer assess five other pieces of work in a carousel activity. This works best with tables of 6. At the end of the lesson each student's work will have been assessed for each skill and by 5 other people. - Students will then improve their work based on this peer assessment before reflecting and showing their teacher where they feel they have improved their work the most. - The teacher can then mark with minimal annotations and see if they agree with the peer assessment. This lesson teaches itself once students have been trained into doing it!

This is a PowerPoint that I have collated over the last 4 years to display students' recommendations for reading. There are 254 slides, each containing a book that has been recommended by students that I teach. I have removed their names but it is useful to display 'recommended by...' and to add new ideas every half term. I display this at the start of lessons during 'do now' or 'bell work' reading. It could be used for any purpose to encourage students to read more often and more genres.

These are the first three lessons of a 7 week scheme which aims to introduce poetry analysis to KS3 students. Contents: In the first lesson students will read the poem 'Introduction to Poetry' by Billy Collins and learn basic analytical skills. In the second lesson, students will be introduced to 'Horse Whisperer' and discuss both meaning and context. In the third lesson, students will begin to annotate and analyse language, form and structure. All lessons include various differentiation techniques and all the resources needed to teach it immediately. This scheme is based on the NEW AQA Literature specification and has constant reference to the new mark scheme criteria and objectives. It uses the Character and Voice poems from Moon on the Tide so KS3 students can be familiarised with poetry without covering the set poems they need in KS4.
