Day of the Dead Worksheet

This easy to use worksheet is the perfect way of celebrating Day of the Dead in a relaxing manner whilst also practicing the colours in Spanish. It can be used as a starter or plenary as a discussion is held on what Day of the Dead really means. Students must colour in each part of the sugar skull with the correct colours according to the numbers indicated on the sheet. This is a fun retrieval activity for the colours in Spanish that comes with a hint of culture and it shouldn’t take students more than 15 minutes to complete. You will receive a PDF copy of this worksheet. You can also find a Day of Dead Quiz in my shop if you’d like to dedicate an entire lesson to exploring the customs of this holiday. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/day-of-the-dead-quiz-12747942

Spanish Holidays Reading Tasks

This is a reading comprehension text on Holidays with tasks based on the text. It includes 5 activities and an answer key at the end. For the writing task I have provided a model answer as the task is subjective to the student. This is aimed at KS3 but could easily be used for lower sets at GCSE and as a revision task for those on the Foundation tier. I had a lot of fun creating these actvities and am curious of how people have found it. Please let me know!

La Navidad Wordsearch

This easy to use worksheet is the perfect start to a lesson to discuss La Navidad. It can be used as a starter or plenary to open a discussion about Spain´s traditions for Christmas, but also as a tutor activity that can be done with students during registration if you’d like to make this a whole-school activity to promote languages. Students must find different words relating to La Navidad in the word search looking for them across, vertically, horizontally and diagonally. Some letters are used twice to suit two words, so please let your students know that. It shouldn’t take students more than 10 minutes to complete and if you’d like to expand the activity you could always explain why these words are specific to La Navidad. For example the meaning of the reyes magos or an explanation of what turrón and villancicos are. You will get a PDF copy of the word search with ANSWERS included. I’ve made sure there is a black and white version as well as a coloured one depending on your printer. For any queries please email me at: spanish_learning@yahoo.com

Revision board game for GCSE Spanish (Theme 2-AQA)

Revision board game for GCSE Spanish (Theme 2-AQA)

(0)
This is an exciting revision board game designed to help students practice vocabulary from Theme 2 of the AQA GCSE spec. I’ve used this type of game successfully and students loved a bit of healthy competition amongst their classmates. The topics included in the game are: home, healthy living, social issues, global issues, travel and tourism. This is an amazing activity to practice vocab as well as get students working with others and be independent. Since the referee holds all the answers you can walk around the room and listen to the students using the TL as well as take a break if you need to! I’m a fan of anything that gets the kids working on their own whilst having some fun too. So, please enjoy and any feedback would be appreciated! Instructions: The game should be played in groups of 4-5 with one person being the referee. Each group gets a copy of the game and the referee gets a copy of the answers, which nobody else should see! You will need a dice so players can move through the game. One dice per group should be enough. The younger player goes first and starts the game . The first player to pass the finish line wins. Players cannot advance if they cannot translate the sentences they have fallen onto in the opposite language. They will have to stay in the same place if their answer doesn´t match the referees answer sheet and wait for another turn until they roll the dice again and hopefully get a different number. The referee is allowed to give small hints if the person is struggling (e.g. It starts with the letter T…). The game can last up to 30 minutes and is a great way for students to practice the vocabulary learnt. *** I usually give my students a small piece of paper in the shape of a square to use as a token and move along in the game. I make them write their initials on the square so if they are the same colour they don’t get mixed up with the others.

Day of the Dead Activity Bundle

(0)
This a bundle of activities for Day of the Dead suitable for KS3 and lower ability groups at KS4. If you’re looking for activities that will take your students through the 4 core skills of Spanish, this bundle is for you! It includes the following activities: Highlighter race Vocab match up Categorisation of nouns, adjectices, and verbs relating to Día de los Muertos Mindreader/Bingo 2x Translation Pyramids (1x in Spanish, 1x in English) Writing Task (has a writing strip that students can follow to write a text on their opinion of Day of the Dead) Listening Task (no audio provided - teacher must read aloud and students fill in the gaps) Reading tasks (Q&A and translation of a text) Speaking Task (survey-like exercise) The activities have teacher instructions where needed, in the notes section of each slide in the PPT. Answers are also provided for all tasks except the speaking task, translation pyramid, writing task, and highlighter race. The reason for some of these is the nature of these activities and the subjectivity of some tasks. To help with these though, students are provided with a sentence builder and an extra vocab sheet. I also encourage the use of dictionaries as well, just in case. Please note this is not a lesson but a series of activities for you to pick from for each of your classes. You might want to dedicate more or less time to talking about Day of the Dead but whichever task you choose, students will be able to work on them with the support provided in the SB and vocab sheet. All tasks are in a PPT format so they can be edited to your liking! In our shop, you will also be able to find a Day of the Dead Quiz. Exit Tickets AQA GCSE Spanish (Speaking Questions)

(0)
This is an excellent resource to use for revision of the three themes at GCSE level without planning. I use these exit tickets at the end of the lesson and give each student a different one every time. They must do what the card asks them to do whether it be answering a question, posing a question or simply talking about a given topic freely. There are 60 exit tickets covering all three themes available! These exit tickets are super quick and since they cover a variety of topics they can be used in numerous lessons especially to freshen up the students’ minds. The students must think of an answer and verbalize it thus practicing their pronunciation but also their spontaneity to answering such questions. We all know their speaking exams want natural conversations and through these they can practice and work on those skills. PLUS they can also use their answers for their WRITING PAPER. It’s a win win! Any feedback would be appreciated!
