AQA GCSE required practical revision notes/sheets covering all of the required practicals for Triple Science (higher tier)
Despite being worth 15% of the marks, so many students don’t allocate specific revision time to the required practicals. I designed these sheets for my own students to encourage specific revision of the practicals and have seen a great improvement in practical knowledge and the ability to answer practical-based questions.
Each sheet includes an example method and (where relevant) exam-style questions and model answers.
The model answers for the exam-style questions have been written based on previous mark schemes, but I cannot guarantee that future mark schemes will be exactly the same. The model answers are for guidance only. Students should be encouraged to use these sheets as a starting point and update/annotate them with any further information as needed.
Printable revision timetables ideal for GCSE and A-level students.
Download contains 4 different colour options, plus one black and white version.
For each different colour, there is an option with time slots already completed & a blank version for students to choose their own timings for each session.
The two hour slots at the beginning & end of each day are for completing past papers - for any other revision, make sure you have a break after 1 hour of revising. I personally don’t suggest students timetable revision for early in the morning and late in the evening on the same day - choosing one or the other is usually best, depending on when students work best.
Visually appealing worksheets covering the processes of transcription and translation. Relevant to all A-level Biology exam boards.
Useful as a revision / homework exercise or as a quick assessment.
All worksheets are black and white to allow students to add colour to the diagrams, a process which is thought to aid the formation of visual memory triggers.
Includes 2 worksheets covering:
Transcription
Translation
For each worksheet, differentiated versions are included:
A version containing just the diagram, for more confident students to annotate themselves.
A scaffolded version, with ‘fill in the gap’ structure.
Completed versions with answers are also included.
Detailed worksheet covering (virtually all) possible autosomal linkage exam questions. Could be used as homework or as an assessment (due to the low number of past exam questions on this particular topic).
Includes a chi-squared question and links to/revision of meiosis
Made with AQA in mind, but the specifications for OCR and Edexcel are pretty similar for this topic, so would be beneficial to those specifications as well.
Mark scheme included.
Over 450 questions & answers covering the AQA AS Biology specification.
Comprehensive resource useful for students to test themselves or to enable someone from a non-science background to test them.
Nerve Impulses (AQA Section 6) summary worksheets for A-level Biology.
3 worksheets:
The action potential
Refractory period + propagation of a nerve impulse along a non-myelinated neurone.
Factors which affect speed of conduction (temperature, axon diameter, myelination).
Since introducing these visual summary worksheets, I have seen improvements across all abilities.
Download includes differentiated versions for the second two worksheets (one scaffolded ‘fill in the blank’ style worksheet, and one with blank answer spaces).
Full answer sheets are included, which could also be used as a handout.
The action potential worksheet is available as a fully completed version, to be used as a revision sheet or a version with the just the diagram and graph, for students to add their own text to. This leaves teachers free to explain each section of the graph as they prefer (i.e. some teachers prefer to include the term ‘voltage-gated’ ion channels, some don’t).
Encourage students to add colour to the worksheets to aid formation of visual memories.

AQA Required practical revision notes/sheets covering the 12 A-level required practicals (redox indicator & respirometer included for required practical 9)
Despite being worth 15% of the marks, so many students don’t allocate specific revision time to the required practicals. I designed these sheets for my own students to encourage specific revision of the practicals and have seen a great improvement in practical knowledge and the ability to answer practical-based questions.
Each sheet includes key information, an example method (where relevant) and most importantly, exam-style questions and model answers.
The model answers for the exam-style questions have been written based on previous mark schemes, but I cannot guarantee that future mark schemes will be exactly the same. The model answers are for guidance only. Students should be encouraged to use these sheets as a starting point and update/annotate with any further information as needed.
Plus, set of 65 flashcards covering practical skills & experimental design.
Covers topics such as:
Different types of variable
Accuracy / precision / repeatability etc
Uncertainty
Range / standard deviation
Choice of statistical test
Choice of graph
Basic practical skills such as scientific drawing rules, eye piece graticule calibration etc
There is some ambiguity when it comes to mark schemes on questions such as accuracy/precision - with different exam boards sometimes having slightly different answers. I have tried to include the most appropriate answer on the flashcards, but if anyone disagrees with any of the answers - please do leave a review and I will alter the answers accordingly!

UPDATED with coloured diagrams on answer sheets.
Visually appealing worksheets covering the inheritance topic of A-level Biology. Designed with the AQA exam board in mind (incomplete dominance is not relevant to AQA, but has been included to allow teachers of other exam boards to use this resource - codominance and incomplete dominance are not the same thing!).
Includes 7 worksheets covering:
Multiple alleles

If you find yourself needing to cover a KS3 chemistry lesson, this bundle of no-prep activities will keep your class engaged in your absence. All your class will need is access to a periodic table, access to the internet (only for 1 of the worksheets) and a print-out of the desired activities.
What’s included?
A student-information sheet on the periodic table with a worksheet to complete (includes an extension task).
A ‘research an element’ worksheet. Either let students pick their own element or who ever is covering the lesson could use a random-word generator to assign each student a different element (students will need access to the internet for this activity).
A ‘mystery element’ quiz worksheet - solve the periodic table-based clues to find the mystery element.
A 10-question powerpoint periodic table quiz. Divide the class into pairs / small groups. Who can name an element named after a planet? Who knows an element which is magnetic? Any idea which country is named after silver?? (please note - in order to avoid formatting issues, the powerpoint slides are NOT editable)
All of these activities are suitable for a cover lesson as full answers are included.
Activities can be mixed and matched based on lesson length / class ability / prior knowledge of this topic.
Three worksheets covering part of Section 8 of the AQA A-level Biology specification:
Producing DNA fragments (reverse transcriptase, restriction endonucleases & gene machines).
In vivo cloning (summary of isolation - insertion - transformation - identification - culturing). Please note that a DETAILED EXPLANATION OF SPECIFIC MARKER GENES is NOT INCLUDED in this resource.
In vitro cloning / PCR
(Where relevant, a scaffolded gap-fill style version and a blank version is included).
Full answer sheets are included, which could alternatively be used as handouts/revision sheets.

Revision checklist for AQA A-level Biology. Designed for use with the following revision method:
Step 1: make revision resources for a topic e.g. bullet-point notes, flashcards, mindmap.
Step 2: use these revision resources to actively revise the topic.
Step 3: complete topic-specific exam questions.
Step 4: mark questions and annotate revision notes with any missed information.
Step 5: repeat until you are achieving a mark that is comparable to your desired final grade.
Step 6: move onto the next topic!
Ideal for first lesson back after lockdown for a bit of revision, or for a ‘fun’ end of term activity. Would work for remote learning.
Includes a powerpoint for the quiz, a student answer sheet and a teacher MS with follow up questions to go with each picture. Virtually all pictures and questions are relevant to AQA, OCR and Edexcel.
