My resources are designed against Scottish curriculum outcomes and can be adapted to suit any curriculum model, specifically in English and Literacy. I have extensive experience in planning, teaching, supporting and assessing learners in ASN/SEN environments and have a wide range of accessible resources to suit learners with additional support learning needs.

This is a booklet designed for the term before Christams. It is a short yet fun media unit which explores the Christmas film, ‘Home Alone.’ The resource includes exercises on understanding the film plot, exploring the charcaters, in particualr Kevin and the mnor characters: Buzz, Frank and Old Man marley. Included are activities on sound in film, camera angles and many opoortunities for Talking and Listening activities. This resource could be used for a lower ability section as the activities are designed to be accessible to all learners. The learnign activities include comprehension questions on charcater, cloze exercises for exploring plot and talking and listenign activites.

This resource is a comprehensive unit which looks at characters in films and in books and the roles they play e.g. role of hero/villain. The unit contains and end-of-unit assessment which helps to prepare Scottish pupils for SQA National 1 assessment units in communication: Identifying characters in fiction. The unit can be used to support learning in any curriculum but was originally designed with a view to support learners in achievement of National 1 SQA unit assessment. The unit assessment comes with clearly defined success criteria and there are cut and paste activities suitable for ASN/SEN learners. The resource is accessible to middle primary/early secondary learners or those in SEN settings.

Identifying fiction and non-fiction unit

This resource has been designed for SEN/ASN learners with tasks designed for students to learn about and accurately identify fiction and non-fiction texts. The unit is perfect for the start of a term when about to engage in reading activities and/ or as an introduction to exploring texts/engaging in personal reading or library trips. The unit has an end-of-unit assessment task which is designed with reflection questions and success criteria to enable learners to identify criteria for success and to consider approaches to successful assessment. The assessment brief is to design a poster explaining features of fiction and non-fiction texts. The unit is designed with stick and match activities and suits pupils in late primary/early secondary and also is a unit which is designed for senior learners, particularly in SEN/ASN provisions to support assessment in SQA National 1 communication units.
