I'm currently working as Head of Humanities at a school in Bristol, England. I've always been passionate about my specialist subject, RE and have a keen interest in producing Philosophy resources which are suitable for children. I also endeavour to upload as much as I can for the new GCSE specs, as I produce new resources. Come back and visit again soon for my own versions of specimen papers, glossaries, homework and extension tasks, as well as lesson ideas for AQA GCSE RE Spec A.

How does a family work? The GAME OF LIFE!

(1)
Full resources all here! Students are given the roles of different family members (a role for every student in a class of 30) and from these characters, families are made. There is a budget to use over a week, a blank cleaning rota, a crib sheet detailing fun activities and potential purchases (groceries) etc. A great and fun introduction to any unit in RE or PSHE on relationships. I used it to introduce the WJEC Relationships unit and it generated some fantastic discussion.

Is your life more important than mine?

A lesson resource to introduce topics within Medical Ethics. This PP introduces the issues by asking students to think about the Trolley Problem, some case studies and then consider the Christian Principle, 'The Sanctity of Life'. A prompt for lesson activities.

Should all humans have freedom of speech? Scavenger Hunt!

(0)
This is engaging activity aimed at KS4 and KS5 students. Students use the A3 data collection sheet to read the four case studies, which ideally are posted around the room. They complete the questions and then share answers as a class. Should terrorist groups be allowed to speak in public? What about Far Right politicians? Freedom of Speech is a Human Right, but should some views be kept private?

Flipped Learning

This is a presentation I used in a recent T&L briefing. It outlines the purpose of Flipped Learning and includes some suggestions as how to incorporate it into lessons. It took around 15 minutes, with a few minutes for questions.

Why do Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath?

(0)
A full lesson with starter case study discussion activities, links to clips on the PP, written activities and a consolidation activity. A really engaging lesson which gets students thinking about how doctors begin to assess the value of a human life.
Why does prejudice happen and what are the different types of prejudice?

Why does prejudice happen and what are the different types of prejudice?

There are easily enough resources (10) for two lessons here. The 'images' can be distributed to students (of different examples of prejudice) for them to guess the lesson topic or to pull together what they have in common. They then have some introductory lessons on the PP, before completing a Scavenger Hunt, around the room. They look at cases studies from story lines from Eastenders to Stephen Lawrence and complete a data collection sheet, before bringing it all together with a consolidation activity. I previously used this with GCSE students but there are differentiated activities included if it needs to be adapted for young or older students.

Why do people suffer?

(0)
A full lesson, with corresponding resources and extensions/higher level reading tasks. Students are asked to consider the difference between moral and natural evil, eventually leading on to a discussion about whether God can exist when there is so much suffering in the world.

This revision guide was in most cases, the sole companion for my Year 11 students over the last few years. It contains information (key words, content and teachings) on Medicine, Conflict, Expression and Authority and State. Sample examination questions and activities are also included. 42 full pages and all printable.

WJEC GCSE Full Unit 1 Revision Guide

This revision guide is designed to accompany the WJEC Specification, which will apply to current Year 11 students. It contains 37 pages of revision style pages on the topics, 'Relationships', 'Our World', 'Looking for Meaning' and 'Is it fair?'. Many of the A* students at our school found it really useful and in most cases, this was their sole revision companion.

Is Capital Punishment Acceptable? WJEC/OCR/AQA

(0)
11 documents included: full lesson plan, PPT, card sort activity, two extension resources (Bentham), case studies, worksheets and information for the teacher. This is one of my favourite lessons as it really can be adapted to suit a variety of learning styles and there are resources which will be useful for effective differentiation. I currently used it for the Authority unit for WJEC but will also use it for the new AQA specification as it contains sufficient detail.
Why is RE important?

Why is RE important?

(0)
A lesson to introduce RE to transition students or Year 7 students. There is a cardsort where students can sort topics and images into Geography, History and RE. They then explore why RE is useful through discussion and video and then conclude with a creative task. No lesson plan included but adaptable resources.
