This document includes a lot factual information about Spanish and Latin American culture and society, focusing on the theme Aspects of Political Life in the Hispanic World of the new Spanish A Level course. It provides students with wide range of facts and statistics about the topic, which should be very helpful in preparation for Paper 3 (the speaking exam). The information in the file can also be easily adapted to reading or translation activities.

Paper 2 booklet: Réquiem por un campesino español. Paper 2 booklet: La casa de Bernarda Alba. A 38 page booklet to help prepare Spanish A Level students for Paper 3 (speaking test). The booklet focuses on the Theme Multiculturalism in the Hispanic world, and it contains 18 discussion cards covering Immigration (6 cards), Racism (6 cards) and Integration (6 cards). Each section is followed by a list of 20 questions to encourage the students to further explore the issues covered in the cards. The cards contain (quite a lot) of factual information about the theme (a lot more than the sample cards from AQA) and three questions, the first one always being “How do you react to the information on this card?”). The aim of presenting the cards like this is to provide the students with a lot of ideas on what to say about the theme, as well as making them more aware that they always have to discuss the information printed on the card (AO2 and AO4). The booklet also includes a student-friendly overview of the new specification, an explanation of the requirements of Paper 3, the assessment objectives and the mark scheme for both part one (discussion if a sub-theme) and part two (presentation and discussion of the individual research project) of the paper. Finally, the booklet also contain three pages of useful language for the test.

New Spanish GCSE vocabulary booklet - Cuaderno de vocabulario.

This booklet contains a detailed overview of the key vocabulary for the new Spanish GCSE. While it is not an exhaustive list, it contains a lot of vocabulary items organised according to each of the themes and topics of the new course and their lexical category. The booklet starts with an overview of the course and the different themes and topics. This is followed with a section of exam rubrics in Spanish, taken from the AQA specification and from the 2018 exams (all four skills, at foundation and higher level). The next section includes general vocabulary: asking questions, comparisons, quantifiers, conjunctions, connectives, negatives and prepositions. The final section includes a page of key vocabulary for each of the topics (therefore four pages per theme) of the course. Each page contains on average ten key nouns, ten key verbs and ten key adjectives on the topic, followed by a blank page for students to add their own vocabulary. I have uploaded two versions of the booklet: the first version only contains the Spanish words, without the English translation, and it can be used for starter or plenary activities in the lesson. The other one is the full version of the booklet, with the English translation.

This resource contains two different versions of my grammar booklet. The content of both booklets is basically the same, but while the full version is 62 pages long, the reduced version is more printing-budget friendly, with 37pages. Both versions of the booklet contain a very comprehensive summary of the grammar required to succeed in the new GCSE course and numerous activities for the students. Each booklet is divided in three sections, one for each theme of the new GCSE, and withing each of those there are two parts, one dedicated to verbs and one dedicated to all the other lexical categories. Each entry of the booklet focuses on one aspect of grammar, with a brief explanation of how to use the structure that is being covered, the rules and exceptions that need to be taken into account, and a variety of examples. This is always followed by an “Ahora practica” section with activities for the students to complete. Whenever possible, the examples and activities match the theme that the specific structure has been included under (e.g., the majority of examples and activities used to study the present tense will be related to the topics from theme 1 - relationships, technology, leisure and festivals). A free sample of this resource (the section on ser and estar) can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-grammar-ser-and-estar-11939670 And the final pages of the booklet, with the verb tables: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-verb-tables-11940354 Finally, each version of the booklet can be found separately in the following links: Reduced version: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/gcse-spanish-grammar-booklet-cuaderno-de-gram-tica-11939892 Full version: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-gcse-grammar-booklet-cuaderno-de-gram-tica-11939611
El tiempo (The weather)

El tiempo (The weather)

(0)
A very comprehensive set of resources to study the topic of the weather in Spanish. Suitable for students of all levels, the presentation starts with simple vocabulary activities and little games (Simon says, Battleship, human dominoes) and it builds up from there (weather forecasts, leisure activities in different kinds of weather). It also includes a range of reading activities to do with the weather and the climate in Spain. Additionally I have included several reading and writing activities about Spanish geography to provide the students with a better understanding of Spanish geographical features (and at the end of the topic they will even believe you when you say that it does indeed snow in Spain; quite a lot, actually!)

Spanish A Level: Thunk Questions (speaking, thinking skills)

Spanish A Level: Thunk Questions (speaking, thinking skills)

(0)
This worksheet contains 50 “thunk” questions in Spanish. A “thunk” question is a seemingly trivial question about everyday life, more or less sensible, that makes you stop and think. There are no right or wrong answers, that is not the point. The idea is to make the students think, encourage them to speak and be creative. They are not theme-specific, they don’t relate to the topics in the A Level course, so everyone will have the “knowledge” required to answer them. I have used this as a starter activity (often by giving each student two randomly selected questions and giving them a bit of time to think of their answer) and I found that some students loved it, some were incredibly frustrated by it, but they all tried and the lessons were always “fun”. It also provided a great insight into the students personality, as some of the students answer the questions in a very analytical way, whereas others take advantage of the “no right or wrong answers” rule to really let their creativity flow.

Spanish GCSE: Answering 90-word questions. Theme 3 (Current & future study and employment). Writing

(0)
This resource contains two separate booklets. The first one contains eight 90-word questions covering all topics of Theme 3 (Current and future study and employment) of the AQA Spanish GCSE specification (two questions for each of the four topics of Theme 3). Based on the sample papers and the 2018 paper, all the questions include four bullet points; one bullet point refers to the future and one to the past. The second booklet contains the same eight questions, followed by a table with 20 sentences. Sixteen of the sentences are direct answers to one of the bullet points (four sentences per bullet point); the remaining sentences, while useful, do not answer directly any of the bullet points and wouldn’t give the students much credit for content if used on their own. The idea behind this activity is to encourage the students to read the bullet points carefully, taking into account the different time frames that they refer to and what they actually ask, thus stopping them from simply writing anything they can think of on each of the different topics without taking into account the requirements of the task. The sentences can also be used as translation activities. Themes 1 and 2 also available, and a booklet with all three themes can be found in this link: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-gcse-answering-90-word-questions-themes-1-2-and-3-writing-exam-1209181

This resource contains two separate booklets. Based on the sample papers and the 2018 paper, all the questions include four bullet points; one bullet point refers to the future and one to the past. The second booklet contains the same twenty-four questions, each of them followed by a table with 20 sentences. Sixteen of the sentences are direct answers to one of the bullet points (four sentences per bullet point); the remaining sentences, while useful, do not answer directly any of the bullet points and wouldn’t give the students much credit for content if used on their own.
