Lesson on Maths skills needed for the new Combined Science GCSE (9-1) with a focus on Biology content, although many of the skills are needed across all three Sciences. The lesson is intended to be a circus activity with all of the topics around the room (information sheet and exam question sheet for each that I printed back to back) for students to move around between and then mark at the end of the lesson. It could easily be done as a teacher lead lesson as well though and even slotted into other lessons as needed. A series of lessons looking at climate change and global warming. Lesson 1: Causes- what global warming is, what greenhouse gases are, are humans the cause, deforestation and fossil fuels. Lesson 2: Effects- data about climate change, sea level rise, ocean acidification, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, extreme weather events, effects on health and a graph drawing exercise. Lesson 3: Solutions- what can governments do, the Paris agreement, what businesses can do and renewable energy. Lesson 4: Solutions- what individuals can do to combat climate change. There are lots of exercises and information included in each lesson and it could easily be condensed down into fewer lessons by excluding some tasks. Likewise some of the tasks could be stretched out across several lesson depending upon the time you have. All worksheets/resources needed are within the PowerPoint as hidden slides.

Series of lessons looking at ‘The Plastic Problem’. Lesson 1- looking at what plastic is, the different types of plastic and how to identify plastic objects. Lesson 2- looking at what the issues with using plastics are, plastic in the ocean and how long items take to decompose. Lesson 3- graph drawing lesson with different sets of data (differentiated by level). Lesson 4- science in the news lesson looking at different articles to do with the plastic project and analysing/summarising them. Lesson 5- looking at the solutions for the plastic problem (the four R’s).

Science exam technique lesson focusing on recognising command words and how to answer 6 mark questions. Some tasks are generic and some have specific questions to the Edexcel combined science CP6 Radioactivity topic (was done alongside DIRT for the end of unit test)- but could easily be adapted for another topic or just done as is as revision.

CB9a lesson from the new Edexcel combined Science GCSE (9-1) all about ecosystems. The lesson includes resources organisms need to live, ecosystems, populations, communities, habitats, interdependent relationships, food webs, sampling and abundance.

A series of 50 practicals for use within a science club. Includes a range of activities that link to biology, chemistry and physics topics. Each practical has a method sheet (including equipment list and scientific explanation) and an extension worksheet with questions for students to complete around the topic.

CP3f lesson from the new Edexcel combined science GCSE (9-1) looking at renewable energy. The lesson includes what a renewable energy resource is, solar power, hydroelectric, wind turbines, tidal power, bio fuels, usage of renewable resources and if 100% renewable is possible.

SB3a lesson from the new Edexcel Biology GCSE (9-1) about asexual and sexual reproduction. The lesson includes what asexual and sexual reproduction are, a comparison of the two and the advantages and disadvantages of each using a series of examples.

Worksheets for looking at the Coronavirus in the news. Students will look at the reliability of each source, the purpose, the audience, any evidence used, pick out the keywords and summarise it in their own words.

CP5b lesson from the new Edexcel Science GCSE (9-1) looking at the Electromagnetic Spectrum. Including what colours make up visible light, the order of the EM spectrum, comparing frequency and wavelength and telescopes that detect EM waves.

SB5h lesson from the new Edexcel Biology GCSE (9-1) all about plant diseases. The lesson includes plant disease symptoms, distribution analysis and diagnosis testing.

Help sheet to aid students with questions about using the inverse square law to calculate a new light intensity when the distance of a light source changes. Was designed specifically for use with the CB6 topic of the new Edexcel Combined Science GCSE course (9-1).
