I have been teaching for over 23 years (wow - that's a long time!) I have taught in a several different schools mainly in Early Years and Key Stage 1. I have also spent some time as a supply teacher when my children were little and taught in all classes from nursery up to year 6. So I have quite a lot of experience! I love making resources and sharing them with the children in my class. I feel it's important to add those little extra details to make resources appealing to them.

Right or wrong sentences

Simple sentences which the children read and then decide if they are 'good sentences' or if they are 'pants sentences'. Obviously 'good sentences' have capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and make sense. 'Pants sentences' have mistakes and always make the children giggle!

Inference and Comprehension

(0)
A set of pictures from traditional tales and nursery rhymes with questions which encourage the children to infer or develop their own ideas about texts. Why was Humpty Dumpty sitting on the wall? What would happen if Cinderella's shoe fit someone else? This resource is a great stimulus for discussion and imagination.
Treasure and Trash Phonics Practice Game

Treasure and Trash Phonics Practice Game

(1)
A simple PowerPoint of the ‘treasure and trash’ game. The children use their phonics skills to read the words and then decide if they are ‘treasure’ (real words) or ‘trash’ (nonsense words). This game can be easily changed or added to to keep the children on their toes! Good practice for the phonics screening check.

A simple writing checklist for the children to check they have included capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, adjectives, conjunctions etc in their work. They can then tick the smiley sun if they have remembered or the Homer Simpson saying 'd'oh!' if they have forgotten! Each point on the checklist is written in simple child friendly language and features picture cues to help the children remember how to write fabulous sentences!
Star of the day cards

Star of the day cards

(0)
A nice activity where the children say 3 complementary things about the person in the class who is the star of the day. This is written on the card and the child takes it home. This encourages the children to think about their own and others positive qualities. This could also be used as part of circle time or a PSHE lesson.

A simple generic book review sheet. Can be used as part of a lesson but I use them in my reading area. The children write the title, a score out of 10, tick whether they like or dislike the book and write their reasons.

Writing Rhyme and Writing Strategies (KS1)

(0)
This PowerPoint has a writing rhyme which reminds children of the basics of presentation and punctuation i.e. capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, writing on the line, letter formation. The second slide reminds children of simple strategies to use when writing e.g. think about what you want to write, use your phonics, does it make sense? etc
