Phase 2 Phonics x4 sets Matching cut/stick

What’s included? x8 sheets (activity and answers) for Phase 2 split into x4 activity sets. Portrait orientation, pdf format What’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set has kept little hands very busy and focused (for me!) I hope the same will be true for you! This has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently. Phase 3 (x5 sets) in same design is now available in my TES shop if you like/d this one. How to use it? Each learner needs to cut out x12 ‘phoneme pictures’ and match x2 of these ‘phoneme pictures’ to every grapheme (printed on the left of each sheet). Dotted lines guide where to cut, though picture-squares could be pre-cut for those who struggle with cutting out. Resource Details… I split ‘phase 2’ into four sets, one set per sheet. Not all phonemes are ‘initial’ letters (in sets 3 and 4 here) - so learners may need this pointing out before working on these independently if you want them to be kept focused. I have made which sounds these are ‘bold’ (below) for your quick, easy reference… I will list the answers here in case they are not obvious! Set 1 s - scissors, snake a - apple, avocado t - torch, tractor p - panda, pear (learners should watch out not to confuse ‘needle’ with ‘pin’) i - ink, igloo n - narwhal, needle (NOT ‘pin’!) Set 2 m - mouse, milk d - dog (daschund, ‘double d’ !), dinosaur (diplodocus, also ‘double d’ !) g - glasses (green - ‘double g’ ! ), goat o - (orange) octopus (double ‘o’!), orange c - cat, clock k - key, kangaroo Set 3 ck - sock, duck (‘end’ sound here so may catch out some learners) e - elephant, egg u - umbrella (upside -down ‘double u’ !), up (stairs - arrow indicates this) r - robot, rainbow h - horse, house b - balloon (blue - ‘double b’ !), bee Set 4 ck - truck, black (‘ck’ is reinforced (repeated from ‘Set 3’) instead of leaving a gap) f - frog, fish ff - giraffe, coffee l - lemon, leaf ll - bull, ball ss - grass, dress Recommendations Adding the word labels is optional and best provided as an extension for more able/quick learners. I find a small, flat (shallow) container is helpful for each learner to have if a group are working on the same activity set at the same time (to stop cut-out pictures becoming muddled up). Each different set here is a different colour to help with this. However, if learners only cut out one picture at a time there shouldn’t be an issue with losing any pictures. Tiny ‘word labels’ which can be cut out and added to the ‘phoneme pictures’ to ‘’extend’ the activity (page 2, lower right side). I feel it t is best, however, to complete the phoneme/grapheme matching first (without word labels initially) to encourage learners to think about the sounds in each word more carefully.

2D shapes (and properties) name game

What’s included? This download includes x2 pages, portrait orientation, in pdf format. What is it? This is a simple game for two players to reinforce 2D shape names and the number of sides each shape has. The game includes two boards on page 2 (one for each player) with a space for each player to write their names on the line above. All that is needed in addition is a die (dice). One to share is best to promote turn-taking. Players take turns to roll the die. The number on the die indicates the number of sides of the shape e.g. a circle has ‘one’ side therefore if the player rolls a ‘one’ with the die the ‘circle’ can be ‘ticked off’ on the board. Alternatively a counter/‘matching 2D plastic/wooden shape’ could be placed on top of each shape on the board once the shape has been ‘rolled’. The first player to tick off (or cover up!) all 2D shapes on their board is the ‘winner’ ! Clear visual instructions are included on page 1 of this resource which the players could be encouraged to read themselves before playing the game. Who’s it for? This ‘2D shape name game’ resource has been designed for early years and pupils in years one and two as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s needed? One die (dice) to share or one each. Foam dice are great as really quiet! Optional A shallow box, e.g. half of an empty cereal box laid flat on its back with front removed (ideally lined with a piece ‘felt’ fabric to soften sound) to roll the die into could be used to avoid dice rolling away (e.g. off a table top). This should avoid any momentum of the game being interrupted while searching for lost dice ! Resource layout The instruction text is size 14 ‘Avenir’ font. Instructions are included on page 1, the game itself (x2 game boards) are included on page 2. Recommendations This PDF has been designed to print and write-on. It could be laminated and a dry-wipe pen used to enable reuse and improve durability. Useful for… I hope this resource will be useful to range of educators including parents, support workers, additional and special needs assistants, tutors and teachers. Important message… ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Feedback would be wonderful! Thank you!

What’s included? SET 2 x6 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 1 (letters - m d g o c k). Landscape orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (2) has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently. Phase 2 (set 1 - s, a, t, p, i, n) in same design is now available in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x10 rectangular shaped puzzles - pages 1 and 2 (grey dotted lines guide where to cut) to separate them from each other. The adult can also cut the orange dotted lines to separate the segments of each puzzle itself. Picture/word puzzles Each learner needs to match up the segments of each picture/word puzzle to complete the x10 pictures and words - all words on the ‘picture/word’ puzzles are made using only the ‘m d g o c k’ letters/sounds. Once the puzzles are complete learners can use these as a reference to complete the x10 sentences (pages 3-6). Extension/follow-on sentences… There are two versions of the same x10 sentences to complete. A larger format (pages 3 and 4) which can be cut up (perhaps laminated) and written on (if laminated - with a dry wipe/wipe clean pen). The smaller scale version (page 5) has the same x10 sentences but ‘all on one page’ for learners to complete with a pencil, as a ‘worksheet’. Answers are included on page 6 in the same format which learners can use for quick, easy reference. Resource Details… The sentences include high frequency words ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘this’, ‘is’, ‘go’, ‘on’, ’can’. The sentences also include the word ‘spade’ (with an image of a spade directly above this word), ’peas’ (with an image of pod with peas in/outside of it directly above this word) and ’hot’ (with an image of pot with steam coming out of the spout directly above this word). The sentences included are - ‘A pink _ _ _’. (pig) (‘pink’ can be sounded out) ‘This is a hot _ _ _ ‘. (pot) (‘h’ in ‘hot’ may not have been introduced yet) ‘This is a _ _ _ ‘. (dog) ‘The _ _ _ _ can spin‘. (cogs) (‘spin’ can be sounded out) ‘Peas in a _ _ _ ‘. (pod) (‘peas’ may be tricky) ‘This _ _ _ can go on top’. (cap) Question ‘Where do we put a cap?’ could be asked (on top of a head!) ‘A cat sat on the _ _ _ ‘. (mat) (‘cat’ can be sounded out) ‘The spade can _ _ _ ‘. (dig) ‘The _ _ _ can stand’. (man) ‘This is a _ _ _’. Counting in 2s to 50 Game - Washing Line/Socks

(0)
What’s included? This download includes a game (for up to x6 players) to practise ‘counting in 2’s’ (up to 50) using pairs of socks as a helpful visual guide. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. To play this game the two resources included are both needed. Resource 1 details *Counting in 2’s ‘Sock number cards’ x5 ‘landscape orientation’ pdf sheets. The layout of all pages includes x3 rows and x4 columns of boxes each with pairs of socks from 0 to 50 (counting in 2’s). Before playing the game these are to be cut up (using the dotted guidelines), shuffled and placed face down in a grid to play the game. Printing these cards onto card (instead of paper!) will prevent the numbers being visible through the paper when placed face down to play the game (helping to increase ‘fairness’ and eliminate cheating!) Resource 2 *‘Washing Line Game Boards’ x6 ‘portrait orientation’ pdf sheets (x6 different colours - red/yellow/green/blue/purple/pink). The layout includes x3 rows and x3 columns of boxes on/in which to place a ‘Counting in 2’s Sock card’ as if socks are hanging on the washing line. Simple instructions (as well as what is needed to play the game) are included at the top of every ‘Washing Line’ game board. How to play the Washing Line Game take turns to select one sock number card from the grid collect and keep (on washing line board) sock cards which count in 2’s in sequence, for example… 6/8/10 (on the top washing line) and 22/24/26 on the lower washing line replace cards to the grid that don’t fit the chosen 2’s sequence and pass play to the next player first player to collect two sequences of three ‘Counting in 2’s’ wins! Game tips Remembering where exactly players return 2’s number cards to the grid will increase players chances of winning! to increase winning chances encourage players NOT to choose to keep the ‘same’ cards (showing the same sequence of counting in 2’s) as other players are collecting. Choosing to keep a different set of 2’s numbers is more likely to be a wiser, quicker way to win! There are not enough of every sock number card for everyone to successfully choose and use the same sock number cards for their sequences. Important message… ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Lines of symmetry 2D shapes investigation

What’s included? x5 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students who need to revisit this or students needing additional learning support. This may be suitable for children in EYFS. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to encourage learners to investigate the various lines of symmetry within x8 2D shapes. How to use it? The learner can explore lines of symmetry in two ways, either using a pencil and ruler or cutting out the shapes and folding them to investigate the lines of symmetry. Suggestion I would encourage learners to investigate the lines of symmetry within these 2D shapes by first cutting out the shapes (using the colour/black and white version designed for this - see pages 3 and 4). Once pupils have investigated these by folding they could then use pages 1/2 (colour/black and white) to record their findings with a pencil and ruler. Using safety mirrors along side cutting and folding AND when recording the ‘answers’ (using a pencil and ruler) will really help pupils to become clear and accurate in their mind as to whether they have found the line of symmetry. Important… Pupils should be encouraged to find the middle/centre of each shape first and ensure that they fold/draw a line ‘through’ this centre point in order to be accurate in their findings. Answers are included on page 5 in the same format which learners can use for quick, easy reference. Resource Details… lines of symmetry (or recording ‘answers after investigation) using a pencil and ruler in colour (page 3) and black and white (page 4). Pupils will need a pencil and a ruler each. Investigating lines of symmetry by folding. x8 2D shapes will need cutting out (these could be pre-cut for pupils who find cutting out challenging). Pale grey, dotted ‘cutting out guidelines’ are included. Pupils will need a pencil (to ensure their write their name on their cut-out shapes!) and a pair of scissors each. 2D shapes included are right angled triangle, equilateral triangle, heart, circle, square, rectangle, pentagon and hexagon. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Time Hours/numbers on a clock cut/stick

What’s included? This download includes x2 pages, portrait orientation, in pdf format. This resource features a large clock face with line indications of where the clock numbers should be placed (but not in which order). The numbers to 12 are positioned below the clock face - ready to cut out (with dotted lines to guide cutting). There is one extension question - which involves cutting out the ‘hour’ and ‘minute’ hands (at the top of page 2) and placing these on the completed clock face to show ‘3 o’clock’. The answers (the completed clock face) are displayed at the end of page 2 for learners to self-check how they got on. Clear, simple visual instructions of what to do are included on the sheet. Who’s it for? This ‘hours on a clock’ resource has been designed for early years and pupils in years one and two as well as students needing additional learning support. Resource layout The numbers on the clock are size 50 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font and the text on the clock ‘hands’ is the same font, size 18. Recommendations This PDF has been designed to print and use as practical cut/stick resource. It could be laminated (and the numbers cut out with velcro style dots on the back and clock face) to enable reuse and improve durability. What’s included? This download includes one sheet to practise ‘counting in 2’s’ using pairs of (different coloured) eyes as a helpful visual guide. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details One ‘landscape orientation’ pdf sheet featuring x6 rows of x5/x9 pairs of eyes from 0 to 100 counting in 2’s. Features x50 boxes with one pair of eyes in each box and a large blank space under each image where the learner can write the correct 2’s number. Each row includes one randomly spaced ‘helping number’. These numbers are 4, 26, 36, 48, 80 and 100 to guide learners as they go. There is a clear space for each learner to write their name at the lower edge of the sheet and a simple instruction at the top guiding learners on what to do, encouraging their autonomy. What’s included? x5 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for children in the early years, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to encourage learners to investigate the concept of symmetry within x6 spot/dot pictures. How to use it? Learners use the printed B&W/colour spots on the left to complete each of the x6 ‘symmetrical patterns’ on the right side. Alternatively learners can create their own symmetrical spot/dot patterns using the blank sheet provided. Suggestion Using safety mirrors along side the activity would make a huge difference to understanding (or not) for some learners. Best to use these where they are available, Resource Details… The B&W and colour version of this resource show the same patterns (with answers) but a ‘blank’ is included for the adult/learners to create their own. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! What’s included? SET 1 x4 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 1 (letters - s a t p i n). Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (1) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x16 rectangular shaped picture (x8) and word cards (x8) - pages 1 and 2 (grey dotted lines guide where to cut) to separate them from each other. These x16 rectangles can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to read and match together. Resource Details… The words on the word cards only use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n. These words are: snap pin pants spin tin sit pan snip Learners may find ‘snip’, snap’, ’spin’ and ‘sit’ more tricky to match as these four cards do not link directly to a noun picture card. ‘Snap’ links to a ‘crocodile’, ‘snip’ to ‘scissors’, ’spin’ to a ‘globe’ and ‘sit’ to the cat which is ‘sitting’ on a chair. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! What’s included? x4 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for children in the early years, pupils in years one and two as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource encourages learners to identify 2D shapes while practising counting (carefully and systematically) up to 12 objects. How to use it? Learners identify the x8 different 2D shapes hidden (on page 2) and once they have counted the total number of each shape (maximum number is 12) learners record this total amount on the recording sheet (page 1). Answers are provided on pages 3 and 4 in exactly the same layout for quick, easy reference - encouraging learners to be autonomous in checking their own work (carefully). Suggestion Encourage learners to use a different coloured crayon/felt tip pen when counting each different 2D shape (using page 2). This will make finding and counting each different 2D shape much easier and systematic for learners. Provide ‘answers sheets’ (pages 3 and 4) for groups to share and only once the 2D Shape Eye Spy activity has been completed! What’s included? SET 2 x4 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 2 (letters - m d g o c k). Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (2) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first TWO sets of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x16 rectangular shaped picture (x8) and word cards (x8) - pages 1 and 2 (grey dotted lines guide where to cut) to separate them from each other. These x16 rectangles can then be shuffled and placed on a table top (shuffled) for learners to read and match together. Resource Details… The words on the word cards only use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k (from sets 1 AND 2) These words are: dog map pig cap pot mat pod cogs Learners may find ‘pod’, ‘cogs’ and ‘mat’ more tricky to match as these three words are not as obvious. ‘Pod’ may be a new word/concept to some learners (what a ‘pea’ grows inside of), learners may not know/be familiar with ‘cogs’ (or know what they are called) and may confuse ‘cat’ with ‘mat’ as the word they are looking for - to match the ‘mat’ picture card. I have included an orange arrow pointing to the ‘mat’ to hopefully help make this clearer. Opposites - Spot the difference x9 to find

What’s included? x2 landscape, pdf sheets Two pages of the same resource - page 1 is the ‘spot the difference’ activity, page 2 shows the answers, in the same layout for easy reference. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Page 1 The resource explores the concept of ‘opposites’ through two pictures showing the same scene with x9 differences (between the pictures) to identify. These differences are all ‘opposites’. These opposites are - on/off, up/down, sit/stand, sunny/rainy, shut/open, dry/wet, above/below, alive/not alive and in front/behind. Once learners identify a difference between the picture scenes they can circle these and find the matching label below to link the two opposite word labels. Page 2 is exactly the same layout with the opposite differences identified in both picture scenes with a circle and word label to make these clear. Phase 3 Phonics x5 sets Match, cut, stick

(0)
What’s included? x10 sheets (activity sheets with answers) for Phase 3 split into x5 activity sets. Portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? This ‘Phase 3’ phonics practise activity set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently. Resource Details… I split Phase 3 into five sets, one set per sheet. I will list the answers here in case they are not obvious(!) … Set 1 j - jeans, jigsaw (piece) v - volcano, van w - wall, window x - box, fox (learners may need help with identifying that the ‘x’ sound is at the end of these two words) y - yes, yellow z - zip, zebra Set 2 (‘zz’ is in the middle/end of words here and ‘ng’ is at the end) zz - pizza, fizz qu - queen, quarter ch - chocolate, cheese sh - shoe, shorts th - thumb, three ng - ring, wing Set 3 (two different ‘oo’ sounds here might confuse some learners) ai - train, rain ee - sheep, bee igh - night, light (bright also!) oa - goat, road oo - book, foot oo - moon, spoon Set 4 ar - star, shark or - fork, corn ur - burger, purse ow - cow, owl oi - oil, coin ear - beard, ear Set 5 (three sounds ‘ow’, ‘or’ and ‘ar’ are repeated from set 4 (using different phoneme pictures) to avoid leaving gaps and provide an opportunity to reinforce these sounds) air - airport, chair ure - picture, treasure er - ladder, fingers ow - brown, clown or - anchor, fort ar - guitar, car Recommendations I find a small, flat (shallow) container is helpful for each learner to have if a group are working on the same activity set at the same time (to stop cut-out pictures becoming muddled up). Each different set here is a different colour to help with this. However, if learners only cut out one picture at a time there shouldn’t be an issue with losing any pictures. Adding the word labels (page 2, lower right side) is optional and best provided as an extension to this activity for more able/quick learners. I feel it is best, however, to complete the ‘phoneme/grapheme matching’ first (without word labels initially) to encourage learners to think about the sounds in each word more carefully. Phase 2 matching activities (x4 sets) in same design is also available in my TES shop (also for free!) if you’d like to try those out… Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Alphabet matching lower and uppercase letters Rabbit/carrots

(0)
What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters using an alphabet strip (showing capital letters) and carrots (for lowercase letters). Two pages are clear instructions on how to make the rabbit face into a ‘posting box’ (with photos supporting each step). An empty tissue box is needed to make this resource. On this download dotted guide lines show where to cut, there are also two ‘slits’ which need making and a hole to be cut (inside the rabbits mouth). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The photo shows how this resource looks which complete. The idea is that learners move the capital letter alphabet strip left/right to show a different capital letter. They then ‘post’ the matching lowercase alphabet letter into the rabbit’s mouth. This is an ideal activity to keep learners busy and independent. I have included two versions of the letter ‘k’ as some learners may be more used to the look of one style than the other.
