Hello! I believe in making life easier for teachers, which is why I make my resources available on TES for free, or at a low cost. Most of my resources are full schemes of work, so when you make a purchase you're investing in entire units, not just one-off work sheets. Feedback is welcome! As I evolve in my teaching career, I hope to update my resources as well, so keep checking in. :)

Intro to Gothic: The Raven

<p>This was an activity that went over really well with my students. We read Poe’s poem ‘The Raven’; watched the Simpsons version; and then the students were asked to create their own dramatic performance of the poem; which we recorded and screened. Took two lessons Aligned to Common Core Standard: SL.6.1, SL.6.a, SL.6.b, SL.6.c, SL.6.d, SL.6.2, SL.7.1d, SL.7.2, SL.8.1d, SL.8.2</p>

Year 8 Introduction to Print Media Unit

The following resources I've adapted or created to create a scheme of work intended to introduce year 8 students to the codes and conventions used in print media, focusing on magazines and newspapers. For lesson 8, I did not save a digitical copy of the two articles used. They are &'How to stop vuvuzelas from taking over the world&'; by Conor McNamara and 'A stern defence of the vuvuzela&' bu Paul Geiss. I found these online, and hope that you&';re able to obtain through a search :) Please visit my website to download the entire SOW.

KS3 Introduction to Shakespeare Unit SoW

(50)
The first resources for a Scheme of Work introducing KS3 students to the life, context and works of William Shakespeare. Resources include worksheets and powerpoint presentations. The unit itself is meant to allow students to experiment with speaking Shakespearean English, and to build their confidence. No one play is studied in depth, but rather a selection of his works are briefly discussed and key scenes are read through.

Introduction to Shakespeare Part 2

The last bit of resources for a SOW introducing students in KS3 to the life and times, as well as various works of William Shakespeare. The unit itself is meant to allow students to experiment with speaking Shakespearean English, and to build their confidence. No one play is studied in depth, but rather a selection of his works are briefly discussed and key scenes are read through. (Included here are bits I think I left out from Part 1. If anything is missing that is referred to in PPTs, do e-mail me and I can send you what you need)

The following are PPTs and handouts I've created or found to use as part of a unit of study using a Post-1914 play. The play I've used (with great success for two years now) is David Calcutt's adaptation of Dracula.

Intro to Eduqas English Language Component 2A

8 introductory lessons to the skills required for the Eduqas English Language Component 2A (Reading) exam (19th and 21st century non-fiction texts). These lessons are mostly based on the Eduqas English Language Book 1 text, and are meant to compliment activities and information within the text.

A few lessons that I've put together as an end of year study of poetry - poems are quite random, but are ones that I enjoy personally and feel are accessable to KS3 students.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens: SOW

(88)
A resource with lesson presentations and activities for My Year 8 unit on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Students work towards an essay assessment, which requires them to analyse how Scrooge changes after each visit by the ghosts. I&'ve updated these lessons recently (Nov 2010) to be a little clearer and easier to follow. The assessment task sheet is also better (in my opinion). Enjoy :) Also, I&';ve saved them as PPTs in the 97-2003 format, so that those not working on Vista/7 can access (I hope!)
A View from the Bridge: Act 2

A View from the Bridge: Act 2

<p>This PowerPoint goes through Act 2 of the play; small sections at a time. After each scene there are comprehensive questions; which are meant to build students understanding of plot; themes; and characterization. At the end; there is also an opportunity to explore the themes; giving points and then finding evidence from the text to support it. This would be essential for reviewing.</p> Aligned with Common Core State Standard: RL.9-10.1, RL.9-10.2, RL.9-10.3, RL.9-10.5
Small Steps Novel Study

Small Steps Novel Study

(1)
<p>Lessons based around a whole class reading of Louis Sachar’s novel ‘Small Steps’. This is only ‘part one’ of the complete unit; going from an introduction where students watch the film HOLES and discuss (Can do a S&L assessment); and then introduce the novel and read Chapters 1 - 7; with comprehension questions and empathetic writing tasks. I will continue to upload as I create the unit.</p>
Writing to Describe/Creative Writing Part 2

Writing to Describe/Creative Writing Part 2

(11)
The second part of lessons, for my unit on descriptive writing. The assessment involves students creating a piece of descriptive writing about a homeless person in a big city (Cambridge specifically here, but you can change this). I am currently using with my year 9s, but will likely adapt to use with year 10s as well, in terms of producing descriptive writing coursework. Could also easily be changed to aid in narrative writing, if you tweaked it.

The following scheme was created for use in Year 7 as a way to introduce students to media based concepts including good vs evil, DVD covers, Todorov's narrative, shot types and storyboards. The end result is a film review. Films we use are Cinderella, Tangled and Percy Jackson. Optional lessons exist tailored to film chosen by the teacher. Please visit my website to download entire scheme.

6th Grade; Holes novel

Some PPT Lessons I created for the Holes novel. The focus is on building students' ability to use quotes in their writing. The assessment task requires students to use Chapter 30 of the novel to explain how Sachar creates a feeling of sympathy for Zero. Aligned with Common Core Standards: RL.6.3
