Benefits of Breathing Through Your Nose- Improving Health and Well-Being

Nose breathing offers several significant benefits for high school children. Firstly, it promotes better concentration and cognitive function, which can enhance their ability to focus on studies and excel academically. Additionally, nose breathing helps reduce stress and anxiety levels, providing a calming effect that is particularly beneficial during the pressures of high school life. Improved sleep quality resulting from nose breathing can lead to increased energy levels and better daytime performance. Furthermore, it supports oral and dental health, reducing the risk of issues like dry mouth and cavities. By teaching school children the importance of nose breathing and providing them with practical techniques, we can empower them to manage stress, succeed academically, and maintain overall well-being during this crucial phase of their lives. I’ve used this Power Point presentation within Personal Development time (Form Time) but it could be used on PHSCE days or an assembly.

The “Student Introduction and Early Experience Survey” is designed to help form tutors and school staff gain a deeper understanding of each student’s initial weeks at school. By collecting insights into their academic experiences, social interactions, and overall well-being, this activity aims to facilitate better support and guidance for students as individuals. Distribution: Form tutors should distribute the survey to their respective students within the first few weeks of the school year. It can be given in a physical format or through a digital platform, depending on your school’s preferred method. Explain the Purpose: Before students begin the survey, form tutors should explain the purpose and importance of this activity. Emphasize that the information collected will help them provide more personalized support and create a positive school experience for each student. Completing the Survey: Students should complete the survey honestly and thoughtfully. It’s important to encourage them to express their feelings, concerns, and aspirations openly. Collection: Once completed, the surveys should be collected by form tutors or designated staff members. Data Analysis: The collected data should be analyzed collectively by the school staff to identify common trends and individual needs. This analysis can help in tailoring support services and extracurricular activities to better meet the students’ requirements. Feedback and Follow-Up: After the data has been analyzed, form tutors can use the insights gained to provide individualized feedback and support to their students. This could include addressing any concerns, connecting them with appropriate resources, and guiding them towards suitable extracurricular activities. Benefits: Personalised Support: This activity helps form tutors and school staff understand the unique needs and preferences of each student, allowing for more personalized support. Improved School Experience: By addressing students’ concerns and interests early on, the school can create a more positive and inclusive learning environment. Enhanced Communication: The survey results can serve as a foundation for ongoing communication between form tutors, students, and parents/guardians, fostering a sense of community. Tailored Extracurricular Activities: Schools can use this information to refine and expand their extracurricular offerings, ensuring that students have opportunities to explore their interests outside the classroom. Detention tracker

Detention tracker

(0)
I’ve used this successfully to send and track detentions whole school. Each day the tracker is sent out to form tutors after running the report on SIMS (or however you input detentions). Form tutors then stamp the detention and change the cell to green. This enables pastoral teams to then stamp any detentions that may have been missed. This document is saved in Excel, however, it is sent out via ‘Google Drive’ which then allows all form tutors access at the same time and the ability to edit. The tracker also enables you to quickly identify students who have missed a detention that has been set.
