This is a 7 week Unit of work. I teach it to year 8 but is suitable for all of KS3. Included is: a power point which covers all seven lessons, a booklet which accompanies the power point or separate sheets if preferred, evaluation sheets, an assessment ladder, a scheme of work explain what to do and an independent homework project. (You will need a full set of Samba instruments!) Learning Objectives: 1. To understand the origins of Samba music. 2. To recognise visually and aurally the instruments involved in a basic samba piece. 3. To combine polyrhythms to a constant pulse as part of a whole class ensemble and perform as a class. To add dynamics and understand how to become a sensitive ensemblist. 4. To evaluate my own and others work. 5. To complete a Samba Music Independent Project.

This is a 6 week Unit of work. TO FOLLOW THIS. * Learning Objectives: To understand the definition of a theme and variation. To identify and define certain musical devices. To listen and match devices with Mozart’s Theme and Variation. To perform a theme. To create 2 or 3 variations from the theme using specific musical devices. . To explain what you have done using musical language. Included is: a power point which covers all six lessons and a worksheet which accompanies the power point. The power point and worksheet are quite self explanatory but I have put some brief notes below: Discuss with the class the definitions of T and V and then listen to Mozart. Give a little background is needs be at this point on life in classical times. Explain he had no studio etc!! Read through listening activity and discuss new keywords. (we note these in a glossary) Complete Listening Activity. Recap note reading and get pupils to learn Twinkle twinkle on the keyboards. Perform to the class. Discuss easy ways to change a theme - use tick boxes on worksheet so pupils work through list - perform. Move onto harder ways to change theme and us tick boxes again. Get pupils to combine all of their ideas to create 2 or 3 full variations and then perform and discuss.

A worksheet to help with listening practice for the Conventions of Pop Unit of Work in OCR specification. All tracks are available on You Tube. Great for Year 10 or 11 , as a summary listening for the unit or to use as you study each area within conventions of pop.

A basic power point that is useful for Year 9, GCSE or Grade 1 Theory Lessons. Covers the following: Signs and Symbols Clefs Repeats Scales Intervals Ways to compose - arpeggios, canon etc. Structures - Binary, Ternary etc.

Photocopy onto card, cut up and mix. Pupils then have 5 minutes to put the correct musical features into place for Rock and Roll, Pop Ballad and Rock Anthems. Good for a starter activity or revision purposes.

I have written listening questions for 18 You Tube tracks that tie in with the OCR board however can be used across boards. Each worksheet has a range of questions and the exact title of the you tube track as the title. Under the title are the minutes you should listen to. I find this helpful either to give out as a pack for students to complete at home or as individual homework sheet each week.
