At the present time I am Head of Science at an independent Prep School. Teaching KS3 Science so the majority of resources are KS3. I teach several year groups in mixed ability sets so most of my resource included differentiated resources to enable all students to engage whatever their ability level. In previous job taught AQA Triple Science so a selection of resources for teaching these concepts also can be found here.

How to write a Scientific Conclusion

(0)
My students always seen to struggle to write a good scientific conclusion so I collaborated with my colleagues in the English Dept to come up with a way to help them. We used the PEE paragraph as a starting point and produced these posters to help the students. I then used it with a practical we were doing at that time (which shaped tea bag makes the strongest tea) to demonstrate a good conclusion.

I've adapted a sheet I found on TES (Thank you!) to add more assessment opportunities - I used this at the start of a lesson revising photosynthesis - students filled only what they were sure of at beginning of lesson then I went through lesson and then they want back to sheet and completed the rest of it.

The Rock Cycle

This lesson was taught at the end of a topic on rocks and weathering. The Rock cycle was briefly talked about then students were given task sheet and image on Slide 10 of ppt to use in order to construct a comic strip of the life of Robbie the Rock - the students really got into this and produced some very funny cartons - all showed really good comprehension of cycle at the end with hardly any teacher input! Ideal!!
Differentiated group task cards

Differentiated group task cards

I stick these cards on all my students books - this allows me to easily get all the students into two sorts of groups: ability groups via animal (squid = high, crab = mid, starfish = low) and into mixed ability groups using the parts of an atom. I have then stuck big pictures of each grouping round room so that when I ask students to get into groups they know exactly where to go. I have also stuck the animals onto my desk so help with giving out differentiated worksheets - each student picks up sheet next to their animal.

KS3 Energy/Fuels/Photosynthesis Revision

Useful for end of KS3 exams - I print out the student version of the ppt with four slides per page - they then fill in the gaps as we go through ppt in class. They then can stick two sheets back to back on a piece of card and cut them out to make 4 double sided revision cards. My students love this way of revising.

This is a lesson I put together for my students to learn about Convection remotely. I have recorded myself talking through the powerpoint I would usually use for this lesson in school. The video is broken into chunks so that they can complete various activities as we go through the lesson. Differentiated worksheets that go along with this lesson included - (Squid = High, Crab/Starfish = Mid/Low). Instructions shared with the students were: Watch Convection Video 1 for an intro to today’s lesson and a brief recap of last lesson Complete starter question - there is a choice of worksheets - one for Squids and another for Crabs/Starfish - choose the best for you! Watch Convection video 2 Watch the youtube demo of a Convection current (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEDUtS0IMws&t=2s) Watch Convection video 3 Complete Radiator task on worksheet Watch Convection video 4 Complete question on worksheet about why convection can’t happen in solids and then check your understanding by explaining how convection takes place in a kettle If you want you can watch an explanation of why convection doesn’t happen in solids in Convection video 5 Want to try convection at home - check out the Colourful Convection Currents youtube link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxyoeShbpKM) I’ve added the Google Slide presentation at the bottom if you want to look through that at any point. My students really enjoyed this lesson and said that it almost felt like a ‘normal’ lesson at school! Hope you find it useful and that it saves you time at this stressful time! I am doing a whole unit on heat transfer at the moment so keep checking back for further lessons if you enjoy this format.

This is a lesson I put together for my students to learn about Conduction remotely. I have recorded myself talking through the powerpoint I would usually use for this lesson in school. The video is broken into chunks so that they can complete various activities as we go through the lesson - including a simple practical they can carry out at home. Worksheet that goes along with this lesson included. Instructions shared with the students were: Watch Conduction Video 1 & 2 Carry out experiment explained in video - write down your results down on a scrap of paper as you will need them later Watch Conduction Video 3 Complete relevant sections on the Conduction worksheet - write as detailed answers as you can for each question Watch Conduction Video 4 Complete the rest of worksheet - write as detailed answers as you can for each question Obviously this was recorded with my own students in mind so there are references in video to meeting on Google Meet for support. So you will need to ignore these references. This was my first attempt at doing a videoed lesson so a little rough round the edges (much improved Convection lesson available) but still should save you a lot of time! My students really enjoyed this lesson and said that it almost felt like a ‘normal’ lesson at school! Hope you find it useful and that it saves you time at this stressful time! I am doing a whole unit on heat transfer at the moment so keep checking back for further lessons if you enjoy this format.
