Excellent group activity to use after teaching about different forms of renewable energy. The original resources are from Practical Action website (thank you). I used this with 2 different Yr 7 classes (high and low ability) and both loved it and very engaged. How to run activity: Each group needs I community card, a set of renewable energy cards, a map and a worksheet. They then need to decide which renewable energy would be suitable for each of their villages. I get groups to present their ideas to rest of class and we then peer assess each others choices.
Powerpoint that goes through weathering - opportunities to get children to work out the three types with the use of a selection of photos - I got children to talk in pairs to come up with an explanation of how each set of photos could result in rocks being broken down - worked very well. Differentiated worksheets to sum up each process.
Useful for end of KS3 exams - I print out the student version of the ppt with four slides per page - they then fill in the gaps as we go through ppt in class. They then can stick two sheets back to back on a piece of card and cut them out to make 4 double sided revision cards. My students love this way of revising.
Introduces idea of photosynthesis and leads through where all the raw products for photosynthesis come from and how the plant is adapted to get those resources
This is a ppt that I use to teach specialised cells - I stick the info sheets round the room and the students have to go round and collect information to complete their sheets - these are differentiated to allow for the wide ability range in the class
I teach this lesson after an introduction to animal/plant and specialised cells. I found that some classes always struggled with MRS GREN so I came up with a set of different activities to help them work out the 7 processes themselves. I laminated the instruction cards and placed them round lab with the various bits of equipment. Each student then was given one of the differentiated practical ws (SQUID = high, CRAB = mid, and STARFISH = low). The students then went round the room and completed each activity and writing the relevant word on their ws. We then went through answers & ppt in class to get a correct list of MRS GREN. Students then got into their ability groups and used MRS GREN to work out if various objects were living or not - group task sheet. This worked extremely well and I've found that students have a much better grasp and retention of this topic after this active lesson compared to me just talking.
These are resources I put together for a Separating Mixtures sow - it covers atoms, elements and compounds too as an introduction to what a mixture is. Includes lots of opportunity for assessment and practical activities.

A4 sheet covering main points of Digestion, Breathing and Respiration - used as revision tool before unit test. I give it out to students as starter - they then complete as much as they can from their own revision before we go through answers as class using attached ppt - I find this format leads to a very productive revision lesson

Ppt that covers deficiencies in our diets and also the consequences of eating too much of certain foods. Worksheet (from TES - thank you) that I have adapted and differentiated to account for large range of learners in my class
This was done over two lessons - the first lesson was spent planning the investigation and naming the variables - see differentiated planning sheet - my pupils are all grouped according to ability (they had to come up with a method of measuring the energy content of a bit of food in groups) I then showed them the experimental set up so that the next lesson they could come in and start working straight away. A third lesson was spent writing up and evaluating - high ability group had to write up independently - low ability were given lots of the resources attached.
Resource collect to help students create a recycling campaign to encourage staff and students to be responsible with the resources they use. This was run as a 2hr activity for a Yr 7 science lesson to encourage group work and creative thinking. It worked extremely well with some excellent presentations taking place at the end of the second lesson. The planning sheet was blown up to A3. This is a ppt used to introduce drugs - students were then put into five groups and each given one of the drug information posters (adapted from a resource on TES - thank you!) to carry out marketplace activity. Worked very well with students supporting/teaching each other with very little need for input from teacher - ideal!!
