I have compiled a practice exam with answers to aid students in preparing for the WJEC product design and engineering exam. The questions are centered on the fundamental principles and concepts specified in the curriculum. The exam includes questions from the SAMs and previous papers, and I have created an editable document that can be printed and distributed to students.
Providing past papers and mock exams can help students to familiarize themselves with the format and style of the exam, as well as identify areas where they may need further study or practice. Encouraging students to practice with past papers and mock exams can also help to build their confidence and reduce anxiety around the exam.
This introduction to the Unit 2 Assignment 1 covers the basic and advanced technical specifications for an engineered product.
The whole unit will focus on an engineered product. In this case a pair of tin snip, which not the most exciting product but will allow learners to use the product in an engineering context and most departments should have some old and new ones that pupils can compare. Btec advisors state the product should be accessible and have at least 2 materials and component parts. I have tried game controllers, sketboards etc but a simple handtool is the most effective and there are plenty of resources available for them!
The lessons includes
Starter
Learning objectives
Thinking points
Activities
Tasks - Written, group work, independent learning homework
Helpsheets
Links to video
Plenaries
Please feel free to edit but please don't share without permission (via dropbox, Facebook or googledrive)
The next powerpoint in the series of lessons will introduce the properties of materials used in a pair of tin snips that will enable learners to achieve the target criteria for learning aim B.
It may not cover all aspects that you are required to teach during the GLH but hopefully will start you off on a good basis to move forward.
Thoughts and ideas are welcome via my website www.thedtteacher.com
The reason this product was chosen is so you can fulfil all the requirements of each assignment.
The product has to have 2 component parts.
The product should be accessible to students.
Pupils should be able to talk about:
The technical specifications and performance of the product – Form, function, User Requirements, performance requirements, ease of manufacture/ease of maintenance/ law and safety requirements.
The materials and components used in making the product and alternatives – Chromium molybdenum alloy/steel and rubber/
The manufacturing process of 2 components of the product
The quality issues relating to the product during and after manufacture.
4 Christmas activities for ks3 DT.
Not the greatest stretching activities but I had to provide some quick cover work for a teacher for a non specialist. Might be useful to someone else too
Quick resource I created for a cover lesson for my year 8 food class. We are currently learning about staple food ingredients. Could be useful for someone.
