A set of 5 potential lessons using Vitamin C tablets to launch film canister rockets. Excellent experiment, fully differentiated planning sheets to accompany it, and a mark scheme for the method. Really useful for planning all parts of an investigation for key stage 3 students. Could easily be used to practice skills with older year groups too.

A worksheet for the first 22 minutes of the limits of perception documentary, part of the secrets of nature series. Answers also provided. It covers a very broad overview of microscopes, small things, electron microscopes and structure of atoms too.

Easy science project for students to complete on dissolving sugar in a cup of tea. This is at 3 clearly differentiated levels (Easy, Medium, Difficult), so you can pick the one that is most appropriate to each student. Students can then peer assess one another, or self assess themselves using the checklist. The checklist will need adapting depending on what levels you are using for assessment! This would be fantastic to use at home too, as it is an easy scientific experiment for children to do. You just need a glass, water and sugar. They could expand on this by counting how many teaspoons of sugar dissolve in hot and cold water. They could find out what happens to the speed at which particles move in hot and cold water, and therefore why there is a difference. It is also a good opportunity to practice drawing particle diagrams.

The questions on the right hand side are the most recent, the left hand side is randomly selected from the syllabus studied so far (according to the order they appear on kerboodle references/textbooks). The first couple of slides ask questions from the KS3 activate spec. You can click on the question the student is answering to reveal the answer underneath. This is suitable for higher tier and foundation level students.

Answer booklet provided with suggested student responses :) Lots of guidance for students on use of equations. You will have to help them create a results table (don’t forget units!). I put the headings for my results table as: Fuel Start Mass (g) Final Mass (g) Change in Mass (g) Molar Mass (mol) Heat of Combustion (kJ/mol)

A booklet which breaks down assignment brief B to help students organise themselves as they go through the experiment in class. Included is also some PowerPoint slides with useful youtube links and a checklist of everything that I felt needed to be included in the assignment brief.
