A lesson to help students identity different forms of poetry and the features. I used this for my year 10 English Literature class and it really helped them understand sonnets, free verse, dramatic monologue, blank verse and limericks.

Full study of the poem The Great Storm’ by Jo Shapcott from the AQA IGCSE English Literature poetry anthology ‘People and Places’. Slides include guided analysis for: context, poetic terms, form & structure, tone, atmosphere, imagery and themes.

Slides consist of 2-3 Lessons analysing ‘In a London Drawing Room’ by George Eliot. This It includes context, theme, form, structure and language. This poem is included in the AQA IGCSE People and Places anthology and therefore there is some comparative focus with other poems, but this can be easily edited accordingly.

This resource was planned for the AQA English First Language IGCSE Reading Paper, but can be adapted easily for other exam boards. It studies the memoir ‘127 Hours: Between a Rock and a Hard Place’. Includes: PAF, Language, Structure, Literary Techniques, Nouns and verbs, Sequencing and guided analysis task for students. There are practice questions included based on the AQA mark scheme which can be adjusted for other exam boards. There is also a continuation lesson for writing a related article which you can use or lose.
