About Us

Dubai English Speaking School (DESS) is very proud to be the oldest British school in the United Arab Emirates, established in 1963 by the British Embassy and has over 1,000 students.  We enjoy an excellent reputation and are one of the few not-for-profit British curriculum schools in the region with a long and proud history in Dubai.

DESS is a thriving, not-for-profit provider of education and the "Home of Irresistible Learning". DESS is the oldest British Curriculum School in Dubai and is always at the cutting edge of new developments in Education, we are proud of our inclusive nature and believe that our children get the very best experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. Academic success is important and our outstanding results speak for themselves, but we also place ‘Learning for Life’ as central to our school development.  Our children learn through an exciting child-led curriculum, personalised to their own interests.

DESS is a member of the Association of British Schools Overseas (BSO) and Council of British International Schools (COBIS) which have also rated DESS as an “Outstanding’’ provider of education.

Life in Dubai

Dubai is one of seven Emirates which make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is a tolerant and safe yet cosmopolitan and vibrant place to live, with an incredible amount of things to do and see.

Over 90% of the population are expatriates meaning it has a huge international community. Dubai is the gateway to Asia and the Middle East offering year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches, theme parks, luxurious hotels, shopping malls and events throughout the year.

English is widely spoken and you will see many familiar shops, restaurants and products from home.  Islam is a way of life in the city although due to the multicultural nature of the city, religious festivals of all denominations are celebrated.
