About Greenhead College
Greenhead College is a specialist A-Level Sixth Form College, located in the heart of Huddersfield. It established as a sixth form college in 1974 on the site of a former grammar school and currently has over 2300 16-19 students enrolled.
The College is situated in the fantastic location of Huddersfield town centre, home to the award winning University of Huddersfield and the recently promoted Premier League football team Huddersfield Town. It is also adjacent to the very picturesque Greenhead Park. The grounds are a short drive from the M62 and Huddersfield’s bus and train stations are approximately five minutes walking distance.
The most recent full Ofsted inspection took place in November 2007, where the college was rated as Outstanding – please see this report on the website. It is also the highest performing A-Level College in Yorkshire. 2017’s examination results saw the students at Greenhead College achieving a pass rate of 99.4%, with 33.8% being A*/A grades – both of these higher than the national average. Students are expected to study at least 3 A-Levels following a ‘linear’ structure, therefore assessments and examinations will take place at the end of the two-year course.
Not only does the college take pride in their outstanding results, they also pride themselves in their support for each and every student. The student’s personal tutors deliver a two year personal and social development programme as well as careers advice and information and are fully responsible for the students' welfare, acting as a link between subject staff and parents. They are also in charge of all University and job applications. The college also has its own counselling service. The student body is represented by a fully elected Students’ Council organised by elected senior students.
The student’s experience is enhanced by the college’s enrichment programme. The extent of student choice across the range of music, sport, drama, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, community service and work shadowing is enormous. There is a minimum requirement for students’ participation but many take part in more activities by choice. The enrichment programme is a significant factor in attracting students to the college.
Greenhead College is a fantastic place to work, with a warm, friendly atmosphere between all staff and students. The staff are recognised for their hard work and the college offer a wide range of employee benefits such as; generous holiday entitlement, a pension scheme, free use of the college gym, free access to the onsite carpark plus many more.
