Merchiston Castle International School
About Merchiston Castle International School
The opening of Merchiston Castle International School, China (MCIS) in September 2018 creates an exciting opportunity for a team of innovative and committed teachers to break new ground at an exciting, new, co-educational boarding and day school in Shenzhen, Southern China.
Merchiston Castle International School (MCIS)
Merchiston Castle School is the first Scottish independent school to be linked to a new international school anywhere in the world. The two schools are now setting an exciting agenda for innovation together, while at the same time remaining true to the values and ethos of the original Edinburgh foundation.
MCIS will offer a rigorous British independent school curriculum for international students aged 5 – 18, culminating in IGCSE and GCE A Level. The design of the campus creates the kind of innovative learning spaces in which a relevant and constantly evolving 21st century education can take place in the context of an established ethos.
The Merchiston Ethos
The ethos of both schools is based on people and relationships. Particular importance is attached to the development of personal character and moral values. The atmosphere of the home school, from which MCIS draws its inspiration, although in some respects formal, is also one of pleasant and relaxed collaboration between pupils and staff and is encapsulated in the School’s motto, Ready ay Ready.
Shenzhen and a Generation Ready for the Future
Shenzhen is one of the world's most innovative and exciting cities. It is Asia's Silicon Valley. No other city in the history of human civilisation, as we know, has grown and developed so rapidly. It is a magnet for Asia's new talent - creative, entrepreneurial, hungry. It has a trailblazing spirit, ready for challenge, ready for innovation.
There is no doubt it will be an exciting place to teach. Our students are Shenzhen's next generation.
We want risk-taking pioneers, change-makers and dynamic explorers of educational possibilities.- Chris Lynn, MCIS Head of School
