St Anthony's Girls' Catholic Academy

St Anthony's Girls' Catholic Academy is an academy school based in Sunderland for girls aged 11-18. It is a Roman Catholic school.

The school was established in 1904 and moved to its current site in Thornhill Terrace in 1939. Its sixth form was opened in 1921. In 1999 the school achieved technology college status and in 2009 added languages to its specialisms. The school achieved academy status in 2012 and is a member of the SSAT (Specialist Schools and Academies Trust) Leading Edge Partnership. There are also three school chaplains who are available at the school every day.

It therefore always intends to offer what it sees as a broad-based and diverse curriculum.

“All groups of students make outstanding progress and leave at the end of Year 11 with standards that are consistently well above those found nationally. Equality of opportunity is excellent. The effectiveness of the sixth form is outstanding. All students go on to higher education, training or employment. Students’ behaviour is outstanding. They are very thoughtful and considerate of others. The mature way in which they work and cooperate in lessons is a major factor in their success.”
