The UK's Diverse Landscapes

(0)
AQA GCSE Geography lesson for the 2016 specification Unit 1C. In this lesson we look at the Uk’s diverse landsacpes. It is the first lesson in Section C: The Physical Landscapes of the UK. We start with a collection of photos of different landscapes in the UK to highlight the diversity of landscapes we have. We then complete a short cloze exercise paragraph on the different landscapes in the UK. The main task of the lesson involves using an atlas to complete the map on the A3 worksheet. Firstly the students colour the map according to the relief using colouring by numbers. They then locate the major upland / lowland areas of the UK using the descriptions in the boxes and their atlas. They can also locate some of the major rivers. There are also some extension questions using the information in the boxes. They then answer a 4-mark practice question using photos. There is some guidance on structure and points to use to help the students with this. Hope this saves you some valuable planning time. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/markthegeographer

This engaging and inclusive lesson helps pupils develop a clear understanding of diversity, equality, and respect, encouraging them to celebrate differences and recognise the value of every individual within a community. The lesson begins with a thought-provoking Think-Pair-Share starter, where pupils explore their initial ideas about diversity, activating prior knowledge and promoting discussion from the outset . Pupils are then guided to define diversity and understand why it is important to treat everyone equally, regardless of their identity. Through a range of relatable and practical examples, learners explore diversity in everyday life, including culture, language, food, and traditions. Whole School Assembly: Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

(0)
Assembly Description: Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) This assembly focuses on the vital principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within our school community. It aims to educate students on the importance of treating everyone fairly, valuing our differences, and creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and respected. Content Overview: Understanding Equality: Discussing the importance of ensuring equal opportunities and fair treatment for all, regardless of background or identity. Celebrating Diversity: Highlighting the richness that diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences bring to our community. Fostering Inclusion: Exploring ways to create a supportive and welcoming environment for everyone, challenging exclusion and discrimination. Relevance to PSHE Lessons: This assembly is an excellent complement to PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education lessons. It reinforces key PSHE themes such as respect for others, understanding diversity, and promoting social inclusion. By integrating these principles into the assembly, students can better understand and apply them in their daily lives, fostering a more empathetic and cohesive school community. Link to OFSTED Requirements: The assembly aligns with OFSTED’s requirements for promoting the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development of pupils. It supports the following OFSTED criteria: Promoting Equality and Diversity: Encouraging respect for all people and challenging discriminatory behaviour. Fostering Good Relationships: Helping students develop positive relationships and a sense of belonging within the school community. Preventing Bullying: Addressing issues of bullying and discrimination, and promoting a safe and supportive environment for all students. By addressing these key areas, the assembly not only enhances students’ understanding of EDI but also contributes to the school’s overall effectiveness in meeting OFSTED standards. This assembly is a valuable opportunity to reinforce the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion within our school. It supports PSHE education and aligns with OFSTED requirements, helping to create a respectful, inclusive, and supportive school environment for all.

This Assembly presentation talks the pupils through the importance of diversity and how their morning would not have been possible without it. From breakfast to getting ready for school and more. This assembly fascinates the children and is a great way to getting them to understand the importance of a mulitculteral world. It is a detailed presentation that includes how diverse the UK is, how all our clothes, music and sport is so very diverse. It also talks about how to celebrate it and how to respect differences. It also conatains a wonderful youtube clip from DIVERISTY, which is a great dance celebrating diversity itself. I have used this as an assembly but it can easily be used for a class lesson.

I made up this powerpoint initially during service on Racial Justice Sunday. The letters of the word D-i-v-e-r-s-i-t-y spell out the meaning of diversity. This would make a beautiful assembly in any school or gathering here in our multicultural Britain. It also celebrates our differences in age as well as abilities. It will encourage children and adults to value each other because we all have different talents to share with one another. It could also be used during one of the topics in PSHE/SEAL.
