A 6 Lesson SOW which explores conventions of a script.
Based on Mark Whellers Drama Schemes for Playwriting and activites used within the book
Students write and develop their own scripts each lesson and for HW.
3 SOW’s that were designed in lockdown for non-practical Drama. Ideal for use for non-practical situations or if students aren’t taking part in practical. Also could be used for a homework project.
This drama assessment is a planning resource aimed at mid-upper primary students. There are 3 pages of this resource. The first page is a checklist for students to know what they need to include in their script, the second page is a list of 15 different scenarios (groups chose 1 scenario to write about for their script) and the last page has planning space for students to write their script. The resource has lots of prompts (on the first page) with the inclusion of the checklist with things like: tension, stage directions and reminding students how to write a script in the correct format. The checklist links to the drama elements.
This lesson allows students to find their role within a group, and also choose their level of learning and contribution towards the scriptwriting process. By the end of the lesson, students should show the class a ‘sneak peek’ of their future performance piece.
This is a scriptwriting/playwrighting SOW that can be used for a club. This spans over seven sessions, so will take 7 weeks to complete in total. Some of these can be expanded into a double session depending on the time.
In this planning assessment task, students are creating their own teeny tiny world and characters. The resource guides students through scaffolds and prompts to create their own script which they will then perform to the class.
KS3 Drama/English Unit of Work: Scriptwriting. A unit of work containing 6 lessons focusing on the techniques of scriptwriting. This could be used in Drama lesson and English lessons. The unit of work contains PowerPoint lesson plans, learning journey slide and opportunities for performance/written assessments.
This is a 1 or 2 lesson Drama activity suitable for cover or standalone classroom/practical project. Lesson 1 is a scriptwriting exercise, including watching video clip and writing a 50-line script. It works perfectly by itself. If you want to develop it, the second lesson is a practical development of students’ written scripts. I have used both the single classroom lesson for cover and also the 2-lesson version when I had a couple of spare lessons at the end of a SoL. It works perfectly for KS3, especially Years 8 and 9. The resource includes the slides for both lessons and the worksheet for lesson 1. Suggested video link is included but it can be easily adapted to a clip of your own choice.
