Updated for Spring 2018! Download our five-lesson literacy unit of poetry planning for Years 1 and 2, based on performing Spring poetry and built around the KS1 new curriculum literacy objectives. In this unit, pupils will read a classic Spring poem about a fast white bunny and they will consider how the sounds and language patterns come alive when the poem is read aloud, particularly reflecting on the use of verbs and similes. Children will work towards creating their version of the Easter poem and turning it into an effective performance. The aims of the unit for pupils are: • To listen to a classic Spring poem being read aloud • To identify verbs and similes • To prepare a poetry performance including actions • To perform a poem to an audience The PDF file contains 5 full literacy lesson plans, copies of the poem and all accompanying pupil resources. End Of Spring Term Quiz for Easter

(1)
Fun end of term quiz! Should take up an entire 60 minute lesson, intended to be shown as a powerpoint presentation with children working in teams to answer the questions. I made this quiz with secondary school and a-level students in mind, although it may also be suitable for older primary school children. This quiz has got 6 rounds with 10 available points in each round. Round 1: Name That Rabbit! (name well known rabbits from films from their pictures) Round 2: Easter Trivia Round 3: Who's Behind The Mask? (name celebrities who have their faces partly covered by rabbit ears and noses) Round 4: Easter Sunday Number 1s (click the eggs to hear songs which have been number one over easter sunday in the last 10 years, and name the song) Round 5: Easter Pictograms (work out which phrases are represented by pictures, all the phrases have something to do with eggs, rabbits or chicks etc.) Round 6: Brainbox (given 60 seconds to look at an easter themed image and then answer questions about it). All answers at the end of the powerpoint.

Spectacular Spring

This 18 slide PowerPoint highlights the ‘Spectacular’ signs of Spring. I have included photographs taken in and around Wythenshawe and a video providing audial and visual aids to celebrate this wonderful time of year. The rhyming string throughout the PowerPoint complements the photographs. This resource would be a great introduction to a nature sound walk for children in early years and a visual aid introducing signs of Spring. The language can be adapted to cater for the needs of your children. Metaphors have been used throughout the poem which would be a great introduction to poetry for older children and also to introduce the use of cameras to capture the beauty of nature.
