AQA GCSE 9-1 History Elizabethan England 1568-1603: The Globe Theatre- GCSE exam question practice

This lesson has been written with the 2019 Historic Environment Question on the Globe in mind. It focuses on the possible GCSE questions that could be asked and how they can be tackled in an easy and accessible way. I have also shown the common mistakes students have made on this question from last year and teach them how to plan the question in a minute and include the key skills and key words from which they can then access the top grades. I have therefore included a typical student answer and then made it into a model answer by using a few tricks of the trade and skills which can be used in other units for the longer answers in the AQA History exam. The answer will also include the main concepts of location, function, structure, design, people connected with the site, how the site reflects culture, values and fashions of the time and how the site links to important events and/or developments of the specified period. Students fill in a grid which helps them explain the use of the 5P’s, which I have also included in my student revision guide on the Globe. As well as testing their new found knowledge and how to plan the essay, they then have a choice of four possible exam questions suggested by Carmel Bones, the leading specialist employed by AQA on Elizabethan England. They can also peer assess their work when completed in timed conditions to check they have used the correct skills and content necessary to achieve the higher grades, with suggestions for improvement. The resource includes suggested teaching strategies and differentiated materials and comes in PDF and Powerpoint formats if there is a wish to adapt and change. This is 2-3 lessons worth of work, guiding pupils through Section A of the new spec. IGCSE (Edexcel) English Language A Paper. Due to the lack of practice papers for the new IGCSE specification, I have created this to give my class some exam practice. The resource includes an exam paper in the style of the iGCSE English Language A specification (Section A only). It uses a newspaper article as the unseen non-fiction extract. (I have only included 500 words of the newspaper article, due to copyright, but have cited the link so you can see the full piece.) The anthology piece you will need is 'A Passage to Africa' from the IGCSE anthology. The accompanying ppt. presentation guides pupils through the exam paper and offers example responses.
