This resource has been designed to introduce students to CAD CAM and teach them the basics of using Google Sketchup specifically with product design in mind. This 30 page slideshow and accompanying booklet will guide students through first understanding what CAD is and then teaching them how to use Google sketchup. The slides have step by step screenshots with written instructions that allow students to work at their own pace. I have used this resource for the past three years and it has really helped my students learn how to use sketchup and design prototypes for their projects. My GCSE students still refer to it when creating joints or CAD modelling for their coursework. The resource doesn’t require much teaching but will work better if the teacher can demonstrate the steps on a projected screen first. Can also be used as cover if required. All the slides are editable.

This teacher resource helps the teacher to introduce ‘Drones’. It gives a brief history as well as detail applications about how they are currently used in different fields (e.g. Search and rescue, Scientific Research, Disaster relief, Agriculture, Sports etc.). The PPT introduces the topic using links to few video clips as well as class activity description for the unit of work. At the end of the PPT there is the task for students to look at the functionality of a drone which is in use currently and to modify it to fulfil another area in need to make this world a better place. KS3 lesson allows Y7 pupils to understand different wood joints and to model example wood joints, to work in a team in the 'factory' to cut and assemble the longest & most accurate Dovetail joint. The lesson included a range of different short activities (such as modeling cardboard joints, the quiz 'Who wants to be a Millionaire?' and the 'Dovetail Challenge' competition) to reinforce pupils' understanding and the knowledge of wood joints and its use.

Flowcharts introduction

A great introduction or refresher lesson on how to use 2D design. This lesson will guide students through using the most simple tools through to vectorising images from google. The lesson will help students understand why things need to be drawn a certain way in order to work with the laser cutter. The slides have been designed so that students can use them as reference to work independently. The slides can also be blown up and printed as part of a classroom display. Worksheet is editable and can be slotted into any project booklet that involves CAD.
