Pokemon Go Orienteering and Maths challenge - PE and cross curricular

A great orienteering course to engage students and the wider community. With 30 interactive Pokemon control points (with QR links) to find, this resource will engage students and enhance their map reading skills. Each Pokemon has 6 data points to note and these are then used to answer Maths challenges with 2 sets of 20 questions created that are suitable for primary and secondary students. The resources can be very adaptable to suit your needs: Stand alone orienteering course Stand alone maths challenges Cross curricular work Control points can be personalised with your school logo and either put around the school, hall or classroom. Simply print in colour with 2-4 per page (depending on intended size), laminate, hole punch the corners and place in your desired locations. Personally, I am the head of PE in an international school, so I used this to engage students, parents and staff in safe, socially distanced physical activity in my local area during the movement restrictions due to Covid-19 and this was extremely well received. It spanned a 7km course. Resources are uploaded in office but links to Google docs/slides are there (as these are my preferred format). If you need to make edits, simply ‘make a copy’ and the ownership will then be yours.

The 10 powerpoints are: 2012 Olympic Medal Bar Chart This looks at a “triple bar chart” showing the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by 6 countries in the 2012 Olympic games. Cross-curricular Scavenger Hunt Activity

This cross-curricular scavenger hunt activity was inspired by an easter egg hunt with a twist- aimed towards key stage 3, the students have to find objects and answer questions based on different subjects in order to gain points. This activity could be done in a classroom, a hall or a bigger space such including outside (like orienteering). The powerpoint of questions incorporates questions from sports, maths, geography, science, english, spanish and more- it does have 18 easter based questions at the beginning but this can be easily edited to a different topic if you desire. I have delivered this with year 7 and 8 students- it does require some preparation of cutting and laminating but once prepared it can be used countless times and has gone down well with my students in PE lessons!

Reading an essay on this topic I was irritated because it didn't incude RE. Then I relised it missed out many links that as an Art teacher I would make between Art and different subjects in school. That inspired me to I use it as a springboard to explore the subject in more depth. I hope it will help to get our students to think 'outside the box&' and be more adventurous in finding inspiration for their work.

Music and ICT: Cross Curricular Topic Planner - The Four Seasons and Sounds of Nature

(0)
I have designed this music topic pack with the intention of covering various aspects of music education, along with the ability to include this within an integrated curricular planner. This topic brings ICT in throughout as well as easily lending itself to the inclusion of various other curricular areas, such as language, social studies, science, design & technology, ICT, drama, P.E. and art. This pack would be particularly beneficial if used in conjunction with a topic on the weather/seasons/nature. Elements could also be linked in well to a topic on Europe. Although some of the lessons may appear to be more ICT based than music, the aim is that the children expand their experience in all areas of music while using new technology. Some of the lessons are more traditionally musically based than others, but each one will provide a beneficial learning experience for the children. They are going to be gaining experience in a range of skills and abilities, such as playing instruments, composing, listening and discussing, working collaboratively, using music as an inspiration for other areas, being able to identify techniques used in music to portray different moods and images.
