A scheme of work to support The Literacy Shed’s Marshmallow video. I designed this scheme of work last minute to support secondary MLD students, something that is fun and exciting that helps them engage in the lessons whilst working from home. Within the flipchart is an example of a non chronological report for one of the activities, this is to be used as a recommendation and gives staff delivering the resource an idea of what to use to support students in writing non-chronological reports. Twinkl have lots of free non chronological reports. English skills covered include : non chronological reports, comic book writing, descriptive writing ( onomatopoeia, similes and adjectives) and creative writing surrounding making a ‘wanted’ poster.

Use these placemats (one for KS1, one for lower KS2 and one for upper KS2) to support our vulnerable learners. If you use the same format as they move through school they will not need to relearn how to support their own learning. If you place on card, you can then add words and other suggestions making each a working placemat.

A two week Year 1 English unit based on the text Mr Wolf’s Pancakes. Based loosely on the Talk for Writing approach. Could easily be adapted to suit other year groups. A great resource to support work on traditional tales or Shrove Tuesday. Planning is differentiated to meet the needs of HA, LA and SEN learners. Resources to support the lessons are included. Resources include a simple version of the story to aid oral retelling, teacher prompt, boxing up sheet to support children’s story plan and vocabulary words.

I do not work in year 5 anymore, but I have banked together all my planning. Obviously it will need to be adapted to suit your class, but hopefully it should save you lots of time :)

This is planning and resources for a two week literacy unit based around the story by Raymond Briggs. It is aimed at Year 2 but can be adapted for a higher of lower year group. A small amount of resources used are from Twinkl (they are not included in this pack) so you will need to have a subscription to access these. If not, you can use the objective to find a similar resource online. There are EAL resources included to support EAL/SEN. Links to NC standards. Follow the plan and it will tell you which resource to use where.

This is a resource I use with students completing a Functional Skills - English/Literacy course. It is a Speaking and Listening task, where students have to partake in a group discussion lasting 10 minutes. The group discussion is about favourite foods. This resource could be used for SEN students, to support them with the Speaking and listening course criteria.

This writing mat is perfect for laminating so students can use wipe board pens and improve their literacy skills. This works really well with SEN students who need visual support to help develop their writing. You can then photocopy the mat or get students to write out neatly in their books.
