34x Treasure Island PowerPoints guiding students through Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island novel. The MTP is included, with a break down of lesson objectives, and reading, writing and speaking and listening skills, developed throughout the scheme.
Each PowerPoint focuses on helping students to develop a range of reading and writing skills, including comprehension skills, close-textual analysis, descriptive writing, oracy skills etc. The first half of the PowerPoints are designed to build these skills slowly, ensuring students feel confident, before moving more quickly through the text.*
Each lesson comes complete with a learning objective, set of key words and steps to success. Each lesson provides a starter task, a task that helps students to develop particular skills, a modelling task, an independent study task (where necessary) and a plenary task. Worksheets and other resources, linked to the lessons are also available e.g. planning sheets for the creative writing lessons.
The PowerPoints are visually engaging, as well as practical, following an effective structure to elicit progress from students.
Thank you for using my resources :) !
*Some of the chapters are summarised, either due to content or timing. Questions in purple font, indicate where feedback discussions will take place, and students should edit and mark their answers/SPaG.
This contains a fully resourced, differentiated lesson on consolidating map skills, including compass directions, scale, symbols, and four/six-figure grid references. This is done by students having to create their own treasure islands with a hidden treasure that can only be found by carefully following their designed set of instructions.
Learning Objective:
To apply map skills learned so far to produce a treasure map.
This file contains one crossword and one wordsearch, using characters etc from Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island”. In the crossword the student will be asked to name the characters etc from the clues provided, and then enter these into the matching squares in the numbered grid. In the wordsearch puzzle the student has to find in the grid all the characters listed. For both puzzles, there is a printable sheet for the student and a solution sheet for the teacher. As usual, to make the answers easier to locate in the wordsearch solution, I have highlighted the first letter of each name in yellow, or orange when the letter begins two names running in different directions. I have included two versions, one in PDF and the second an Excel file, whichever is your preference

This resource booklet contains a wide range of age-appropriate, engaging, and meaningful comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island.' Teachers have found them particularly useful in comprehension or guided reading sessions. They are perfect for aiding the progress of children towards meeting the KS3 expectations within the new National Curriculum framework. Children have found these resources extremely engaging, and for teachers there is explicit information within each task regarding which comprehension strands the task is designed to demonstrate. They also relate to key extracts, characters, and themes from the story, ensuring that children gain a deep understanding of the text.
Activities within the booklet include:
- 'Context: The Golden Age of Piracy' - to enable students to demonstrate that they can: 'Know the purpose, audience and context of the writing and drawing on this knowledge to support comprehension.'
- 'Stevenson's Description: The Black Spot' - to enable students to demonstrate that they can: 'Know how language, including figurative language, vocabulary choice, grammar, text structure and organisational features, present meaning.'
- 'Long John Silver' and 'Squire Trelawney' - to enable students to demonstrate that they can: 'Study setting, plot, and characterisation, and the effects of these.'
- 'Vocabulary Inspector' - to enable students to demonstrate that they can: 'Learn new vocabulary, relating it explicitly to known vocabulary and understanding it with the help of context and dictionaries.'
Plus many, many more activities (the booklet is 23 pages in length!) I've also added it as a PDF in case the formatting differs on your computer.
