20 life skills task analysis data sheets for SEND: home and work routines broken into steps, with prompt-level data, a blank template, and a graph.
A task analysis breaks a routine into small steps so you can see exactly where a student needs help and how that help fades over time. Writing them from scratch takes ages. These are done for you, ready to print, so you can start teaching and recording the same day.
What’s inside (25 A4 pages):
- 10 home skill task analyses: washing hands, brushing teeth, washing a load of laundry, drying and folding laundry, making a sandwich, heating a ready meal in the microwave, washing up by hand, loading the dishwasher, making a bed, and laying the table
- 10 work skill task analyses: signing in for a shift, rolling cutlery in napkins, cleaning and disinfecting a table, sweeping a floor, filling and tidying a shelf, folding towels, emptying bins and recycling, sorting post by label, greeting and helping a customer, and vacuuming a room
- 6 dated data columns on every sheet, with “steps independent” and “% independent” rows
- Prompt key: Independent, Verbal, Gesture, Model, Partial physical, Full physical
- Materials list, target line, and notes space on every sheet
- Blank task analysis template for any routine
- Progress graph (% independent across 20 sessions)
- Teacher page explaining how to use and score the sheets
How to use them:
Pick the routine that matches the student’s target or placement. Cross out or add steps so it matches how the job is done in your setting. Teach the routine and write the prompt level the student needed for each step. Count the steps done independently, work out the %, and plot it on the graph. After a few weeks you have clear, dated evidence of progress to share at review meetings and with families.
Good to know:
- Steps are written in plain, short language so you can also use them as a visual checklist with the student
- Workplaces train their own way, so the sheets are easy to edit by hand to match the employer’s steps and safety rules
- Fits independent living and employment targets, including Preparing for Adulthood outcomes in a support plan (EHCP, IEP, or similar)
- Country neutral: no laws or agency names
- Works in special schools, resource bases, post-16 and college provision, and at home
Who it’s for: SEND teachers, teaching assistants, life skills and post-16 staff, job coaches, occupational therapists, and families working on independence.
