Every dance department eventually needs a lesson that a non-specialist can run with confidence — whether that’s a cover supervisor, a PE colleague stepping in, or a trainee teacher in their first term. Based on Merce Cunningham’s five spine positions, the lesson takes 45–60 minutes and needs nothing beyond an open space — no music, no specialist equipment.
