All of the word included in this resource are from the DfES ‘Letters and Sounds’ Appendix 1.

This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support.

What’s it for?
This (first) 100 High Frequency Word Activity set is designed to help young learners become more familiar with these words, to both help with on-sight recognition and providing opportunity to sound out some words (where possible). Learners can either work on this as an independent matching activity or as part of a group game (with up to x9 players), instructions for both activities are included (page 11 of the Word Boards).

Matching

• Where learners select a matching word card, learners position this on top of the word on their word board. Each word board includes x12 words to match. All of the first 100 high-frequency words are included across the x9 (different coloured) matching word boards and a colour coded, numbered reference sheet is included to make the order and organisation of all words clear.

How to use this resource?

This sheet has been included as a quick, easy reference to making clear which of the 100 words are included on which colour board.

High Frequency Word Cards

• Pages 1 - 6

Print sheets onto card and separate the words on each page following dotted lines. Shuffle word cards and place on a table top for learners to match.

Blank Word Cards (Included)

• Pages 6 and 7

Some of page 6 and all of page 7 include ‘blank’ word cards for your own words to be written on to make the vocabulary individualised to learners’ needs or to fit a theme/topic.

High Frequency Word Match Boards

• Pages 1 - 9

Each learner has a different coloured board with x12 words to match. Learners can work individually or as part of a group where the first player to match all of their words wins.

Blank Word Board (Included)

• Page 10

A blank word board is included for your own words to be written on to make the vocabulary individualised to learners’ needs or to fit a theme/topic. This can be used with the blank word cards (also included).
