A class game to help teach the 100 most common words in French as taken from Tony Buzan's list of the most common 100 words in any language that make up 50% of everyday conversation.
Useful for reinforcing core vocabulary at KS3 and KS4.
Teams play 3 in a row / connect 4 or navigate the grid side to side.
Pupils give the grid number in French, then give the French translation of the English word. Click the red button to turn that square red / the green button to turn it green.
I use this weekly as a reward to break up our 100 minute lessons and the pupils love it. They love taking control by nominating a team captain who chooses who will answer for their team and clicks the button when I have confirmed that the answer is correct.
The grid can be printed out and given to teams to fill in prior to the game, and / or can be given to pupils to stick in their books and complete as they come across the words.
Differentiate by allowing use of the completed grid.
Extend by asking teams to come up with sentences using the words.
