A fun Maths activity to introduce children to 3D shapes and related vocabulary.

The lesson includes interactive activities for the children to join in with. The lesson shows children different 3D shapes and describes their properties. Children then have to guess the 3D shape that is being described or the shape that is being slowly revealed. Children then have to use their knowledge of 3D shapes to explain why a shape eg a cuboid is not a cube. This activity is good for assessing children’s understanding of 3D shapes and encourages them to use the related vocabulary. There is then a chance for children to spot 3D shapes in the classroom, children could either record this on whiteboards or on paper. There is also an odd one out activity, this activity again encourages children to use the vocabulary to describe 3D shapes. This lesson encourages lots of talk and discussion about 3D shapes.

Aimed at Early Years and Key Stage 1 children.
